This unforgettable journey starts with a 2-night stay in the colourful city of Kolkata, where a guided tour explores the Victoria Memorial, St Paul's Cathedral and Mother Teresa's house.

Embark your ship MV Mahabaahu and cruise along the Brahmaputra river, watching out for the famous Gangeatic dolphins and the amazing array of birdlife. Visit a tea plantation to see the tea pickers at work and sample the Assam tea. Explore the magnificent Kaziranga National Park by jeep for the chance to get up close to a wide range of wildlife.

Unique experiences include song and dance performances by traditional artists, an evening under the stars at an isolated island and a trip to meet the Mishing people in their village.

Kolkata and Brahmaputra River Itinerary

Day 1 - UK - Kolkata (India)

Fly from the UK to Kolkata.

Day 2 - Kolkata

A representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel for a 2-night stay. (B)

Day 3 - Kolkata

Visit the famous Victoria Memorial (closed Mondays) which houses the iconic Rosewood piano, before continuing to the impressive St Paul's Cathedral and Mother Teresa's house. You'll also visit Shishu Bhawan, the children's home she opened in 1955. (B)

Day 4 - Jorhat

Fly to Jorhat via Guwahati and transfer to Neamati Ghat to embark your ship MV Mahabaahu. Look for Gangeatic Dolphins then enjoy a Welcome Dinner tonight and a talk about Sibsagar and the Ahom people of Assam. (B,L,D)

Day 5 - Sibsagar

Enjoy a day trip to the ancient city of Sibsagar, home to the tallest Shiva temple in India, the Palace of the Ahom Kings and the Rang Ghar amphitheatre. Take a traditional Assamese lunch at a tea estate with a family who have been tea-making for over a century. (B,L,D)

Day 6 - Majuli Island

Enjoy a yoga lesson or a walk along the swamps to see birds including owls, kingfishers and eagles. Sail to Majuli Island during breakfast and see the Satras, ancient monasteries that preserve antiques such as weapons, utensils and jewellery. Enjoy a performance by Satriya singers and dancers then meet the Mishing people in their village. On board tonight there is a talk on Assam's locations and importance. This evening will be spent under the stars on an isolated island. (B,L,D)

Day 7 - Dhansiri Boat Safari

After yoga and an early morning walk on a deserted island, take a river safari in the tender boats to spot the varied wildlife along the water’s edge. This afternoon there is an on-board cooking demonstration by the chef and a talk on Tea, Silk and Jute in Assam. This evening gather around a bonfire on shore. (B,L,D)

Day 8 - Bishwanath Ghat - Silghat

After yoga or a walk on a deserted island, enjoy a talk on Kaziranga and the wildlife of India this morning then explore the village of Bishwanath Ghat to visit the Shiva Dol and see the village women weaving cotton and silk in their homes. Sail to Silghat and visit the Kaliabore tea estate to see the tea-pickers and learn more about the process of producing Assam tea. Visit a jute mill to see how the fibre is made into eco-friendly bags then return to the ship for a cultural evening on board. (Please note the tea factory is not open between mid-December and mid-February). (B,L,D)

Day 9 - Kaziranga National Park

Set off early this morning for an unforgettable jeep safari through the Kaziranga National Park, home to animals including the Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros, wild elephants and a wide variety of birds, with breakfast at a resort in the park. On board tonight there is a talk on Kamakhaya, the Occult and Peacock Island followed by a traditional Assamese dinner. (B,L,D)

Day 10 - Peacock Island

After yoga on board, visit a village on an island that is involved in extensive farming then sail to Peacock Island, renowned for its endangered Golden Langurs. Farewell Dinner on board tonight. (B,L,D)

Day 11 - Guwahati - UK

Disembark RV Mahabaahu this morning and visit the Kamakhya Temple which is devoted to the goddess of desire. Transfer to the airport for the return flight to the UK. (B,L)

Day 12 - UK

Arrive back in the UK.
