Hurtigruten Expedition Ships

Join Hurtigruten’s modern purpose-built ships on superb expedition voyages to the furthest corners of the world.

Specially designed to traverse icy seas in safety and comfort, MS Fram takes guests to the Antarctic in winter months, exploring the glaciers and unique wildlife of the area, including whales and many types of penguin. In summer, Fram heads to the Arctic in search of the polar bear, and explores the traditional culture of Greenland. In spring and autumn experience the best of South America’s verdant rainforests and stunning coastline. With PolarCirkel boats on board, enjoy shore landings in the company of expert guides and naturalists.

MS Maud is equipped with advanced technology, and carries kayaks and expedition equipment. She offers several winter voyages in the Antarctic with highlights including the breathtaking Chilean fjords, Patagonia and the frozen white kingdom of Antarctica as well as discovering the green coast of Brazil.

MS Spitsbergen is modern and elegantly designed, and offers guests top levels of comfort whilst exploring the untouched beauty of the northern hemisphere. Take in the best of the picturesque Norwegian fjords with a professional expedition team or follow in the footsteps of the Vikings to Iceland and Northern Canada, learning more about their history and culture through shore excursions and fascinating on-board lectures.

Explore the wonders of the world onboard some of the most environmentally-friendly ships in the world. Named in homage to Norwegian explorers, there are two fully hybrid ships in the Hurtigruten fleet. Firstly, MS Roald Amundsen is as pioneering as the man it is named after. This innovative, state-of-the-art expedition ship is the first to use electric hybrid technology, reducing fuel consumption. Similarly, MS Fridtjof Nansen brings comfort to some of the world's most spectacular destinations. Both ships are fully equipped to sail in polar waters and offer unique expedition voyages in remote regions.

MS Otto Sverdrup (formerly MS Finnmarken) offers exciting, sustainable expedition cruises along the Norwegian coastline. It is named after a great Norwegian polar hero. Sverdrup was one of the first to ski across Greenland. In the ship's 2020 renovation, natural Scandinavian materials like granite, oak, birch and wool were used to create a relaxed and stylish atmosphere that adds to the premium onboard experience.

When you are exploring the Galápagos islands on board the MS Santa Cruz II, you will enjoy a relaxed atmosphere in high quality surroundings. The small size, with a maximum capacity of 90 passengers, allows for a cozy yet classy environment. Enjoy delicious food in the elegant restaurant, increase your knowledge of the Galápagos Islands in the Science Centre, or maybe mingle with your fellow travellers out on deck. You´ll easily feel at home on board!
