MS Midnatsol is named after the Midnight Sun, the phenomenon that occurs in northern Norway every summer when the sun doesn’t set for 24 hours.
The décor on board is inspired by Norway’s stunning nature, reflected in many of the pieces of Norwegian modern art on board.
The ship's bright interiors are appointed in a classic Art Deco style. Colours are inspired by the Midnight Sun, allowing you to relax in warm vibes every day of the year.
Using their hands-on experience of Norway and the Norwegian coast, the Coastal Experience Team have one mission: to enhance your voyage by offering engaging insights on the nature, wildlife, and culture you encounter along the way. Each team member has a range of specialist, well-researched topics in their repertoire – from the Northern Lights and Midnight Sun to local history and wildlife – ready to share with you in lectures and presentations on board, on deck, and ashore.
Norwegians are well known for their love of the outdoors. In fact, their passion is so strong it has its own name: friluftsliv. While on board, the Coastal Experience Team will encourage you to embrace this uniquely Norwegian notion by taking part in their handpicked hikes and activities. Enjoy learning more about the local region’s history, geology, and culture as you explore with those who know it best.
Your home away from home
Welcome aboard. Here is where time slows down. Where you can enjoy a casual and cosy ambience, inspired by the Norwegian concept of koselig.
Following a day of exciting exploration and adventure, we have many ways to unwind. Relax under the stars in one of our two hot tubs, or take in the scenery from within our sauna, offering a unique opportunity to recharge. Whilst for those who like to keep in shape for upcoming adventures, you are invited to take full advantage of our onboard gym.
It is not common practice to tip on Hurtigruten ships on the coastal voyage, but if you feel that crew members should be rewarded for providing exceptional service, tip boxes are placed in the restaurant together with envelopes.
Expedition Suite
Our Expeditions Suites are the most luxurious cabins. Situated on the ship’s upper deck, the suites feature seating areas with TV and bathrooms with shower/toilet, all with double beds. Some suites have more amenities than others. Located on decks 6, 7, and 8. An exciting welcome gift awaits all suite guests in their cabin.
Arctic Superior
Relaxation and comfort are the hallmarks of our Arctic Superior cabins. Situated on both the upper and middle decks, they all have bathrooms with shower/toilet. They are also equipped with tea- and coffee-making facilities. Most of them have separate beds, one of which doubles as a sofa, and some have double beds. All cabins have individual specifications.
Polar Outside
Our Polar Outside cabins are mostly situated on the middle or lower decks and all have bathrooms with a shower/toilet. They have separate beds, one of which doubles as a sofa, or upper and lower berths. All cabins have individual specifications.
Polar Inside
Our cozy Polar Inside cabins are located on all decks. All cabins include bathrooms with a shower/toilet. Most cabins have separate beds, with one doubling as a sofa. Others are equipped with upper and lower berths. All cabins have individual specifications.
Restaurants on The Coastal Express
Reflecting our love of food and our home, each of our onboard restaurants is named after an aspect of the Norwegian coast. Together, they offer our guests an exciting exploration of our homeland’s cuisine.
Torget
Meaning ‘marketplace’ in Norwegian, the main restaurant offers a variety for all three daily meals. For dinner, it provides either a buffet or set menus.
Brygga
The name of this bistro is the Norwegian word for ‘wharf’. It serves salads, pizzas, and other crowd-pleasers with a Nordic twist.
Kysten
Dine in style at ‘The Coast’, our à la carte option. You’ll savour exquisite dishes crafted by our most skilled chefs, using the finest ingredients the Norwegian coast has to offer.
