South For The Summer Itinerary
Day 1 - UK - Amsterdam (Holland)
Fly from the UK and embark ship in Amsterdam.
Day 2 - Zeebrugge (Belgium)
Zeebrugge is ideally located for discovering the historic city of Bruges, and delightful seaside resorts with long sandy beaches can be visited by using the trams that run the whole length of the Belgian coast. Excursions from Zeebrugge also include a canal boat ride through Ghent, a trip to Ypres to visit several poignant wartime sites and monuments and a beer-blending session with beer tasting.
Day 3 - Saint Peter Port (Guernsey)
Cobblestone streets, blooming floral displays, superb beaches and tiny churches welcome you to this wonderfully pretty harbour. Enjoy a scenic drive around the island, join the walking tour of St Peter Port with a visit to Castle Cornet or learn about the German occupation of the island on a WWII tour.
Day 4 - Cruising the Bay of Biscay
Enjoy the ship's facilities on a relaxing day at sea.
Days 5-6 - Bordeaux (France)
Bordeaux remains synonymous with the wine trade: wine shippers have long maintained their headquarters along the banks of the Garonne. Learn about this winemaking history with a visit to La Cite du Vin wine museum or drive through the legendary Medoc wine region for a tasting at a celebrated chateau.
Day 7 - Bilbao (Spain)
Bilbao is home to the remarkable Guggenheim Museum which can be visited on an included tour. Other options include experience the Basque way of life with a visit to Guernica, the former Basque capital, for typical Basque tapas; or travel to the beautiful fortress of Castillo Concejuelo to see the castle's classic car collection, including over 40 classic Rolls Royce's.
Day 8 - Ferrol
El Ferrol has been inextricably linked to the sea for more than two millennia, being a major shipbuilding centre for most of its history. Ferrol is also the gateway to the northern Spanish province of Galicia, a region noted for its green mountains, deep gorges and fast-flowing rivers. It is also well placed for visiting the medieval holy city of Santiago de Compostela. Excursions include the Crystal City of La Coruna, the historic city of Lugo and a sailing trip to San Felipe Castle.
Day 9 - Porto (Portugal)
Porto is renowned for the rich, sweet fortified red wine we know as port. Explore the city's architectural marvels by tuk-tuk, travel to the medieval city of Guimaraes or tour a local wine cellar to learn how port is made and sample the spirit.
Day 10 - Lisbon
Set on seven hills on the banks of the River Tagus, Lisbon has been the capital of Portugal since the 13th century. It is a city famous for its majestic architecture, old wooden trams, Moorish features and more than twenty centuries of history. Why not join the panoramic drive through the scenic Nature Park of Arrabida, discover the highlights of Lisbon on a guided tour or mingle with the locals at a lively market and meet fishermen along the waterfront in Setubai where you will enjoy a traditional fresh seafood dish.
Day 11 - Cádiz
Believed to be the oldest town on the Iberian Peninsula, the Andalusian port of Cádiz enjoys a stunning location at the edge of a six-mile promontory. The town itself, with 3,000 years of history, is characterised by pretty white houses with balconies often adorned with colourful flowers. Enjoy a panoramic drive through Cadiz with free time to explore the golden-domed cathedral, venture into enchanting Seville or watch a stirring flamenco performance accompanied by traditional tapas.
Day 12 - Cruising the Alboran Sea
Enjoy the ship's facilities on a relaxing day at sea.
Day 13 - Barcelona - UK
Disembark in Barcelona and transfer to the airport for the return flight to the UK.
