West Indies Explorer Itinerary
Day 1 - UK - San Juan (Puerto Rico)
Fly from London to San Juan. You will be met at the airport and transferred to your ship, Viking Sea. The ship remains docked overnight and the following day. Perhaps take a stroll along Old San Juan's cobbled streets or head to the beaches along the Isla Verde resort strip, famous for its bars and nightclubs.
Day 2 - San Juan
San Juan is located on Puerto Rico's Atlantic coast and is a fascinating blend of history and contemporary. An included walking tour takes in historic landmarks, including the Fort San Felipe del Morro. Alternatively, take the optional excursion to El Yunque National Forest, tour the Bacardi Visitor Centre or enjoy a kayaking adventure through the natural bioluminesence ocean waters.
Day 3 - Road Town (Tortola, British Virgin Islands)
The British Virgin Islands boast a colourful history of pirates and buccaneers. Road Town is the capital of Tortola and where you included drive begins. Travel up Fort Hill to Belle Vue, from where you can visit the Great Mountain and take in the panoramic views. Visit the coastal villages of Carrot Bay, Apple Bay and Capoon's Bay, before heading to Zion Hill and stopping at Pusser's Landing. Optional tours include a visit to Virgin Gorda and a boat ride around the archipelago.
Day 4 - St John's (Antigua)
Antigua is blessed with year-round sunshine. Tucked away in a sheltered bay is its capital, St John's. An included tour takes you through tropical countryside and picturesque villages, and on to English Harbour where you can discover the island's maritime history. Visit Nelson's Dockyard, Blockhouse Ruins and Shirley Heights Lookout. Optional tours include a helicopter ride over Antigua's turquoise waters and golden beaches, and an excursion which combines onshore exploration with a catamaran ride.
Day 5 - Castries (St Lucia)
Known for its dramatic twin peaks of the Pitons and charming Creole character, St Lucia is one of the most idyllic Caribbean islands. Take an included drive around the city and up the soaring Morne Fortune. Watch a batik artist at work, before taking in more of the coastline, with stops at La Guerre, Monchy and Stony Hill. Alternatively, discover a variety of flora and fauna on an optional aerial tram ride through the tropical rainforest. Or perhaps enjoy an optional catamaran cruise along the coast, before having a Creole lunch at the estate of a 17th-century plantation.
Day 6 - Bridgetown (Barbados)
Barbados is a vibrant World Heritage capital with stunning scenery. The island still retains traces of its colonial past, including a few red phone boxes. An included tour takes you to Bathsheba's Soup Bowl, the east coast's famous surfing spot, and Farley Hill National Park. Optional excursions include a catamaran ride along the island's Platinum Coast, a playground for the rich and famous, and a visit to Harrison's Cave.
Day 7 - Roseau (Dominica)
Roseau is the beautiful capital of Dominica and lined with wooden buildings. Once you leave the lively centre, you are surrounded by verdant countryside. Today's included excursion showcases the stunning Roseau Valley and includes a visit to a wellness village to see its natural springs.
Day 8 - Basseterre (St Kitts)
St Kitts is the larger of two islands that form St Kitts and Nevis. Its capital Basseterre is a fascinating place to explore. Take in its colonial-era, Georgian buildings, and visit Independence Square on an included tour. Discover more of the island's history at Fairview Great House and wander around the tropical garden.
Day 9 - Philipsburg (St Maarten)
St Maarten is like two islands in one, with its blend of French charm and Dutch hospitality. Your included tour begins in the Dutch capital of Philipsburg. Head to the beautiful French capital of Marigot where you can explore its cafes and boutiques. Alternatively, create your own fragrance at a private perfume class or learn how to prepare the island's famous cuisine with a local chef.
Day 10 - Charlotte Amalie (St Thomas, US Virgin Islands)
St Thomas has one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. An included tour visits Mountain Top which offers panoramic views of the British Virgin Islands. Alternatively, join an excursion excursion to Magens Bay to swim in the warm waters, before shopping in Charlotte Amalie. Or perhaps enjoy a half-day sailing trip to the enchanting island of St John for snorkelling, beachcombing and relaxing.
Day 11 - San Juan (Puerto Rico) - UK
Disembark the ship and transfer to the airport for your overnight flight back to London.
Day 12 - UK
Arrive back in London.
