If Explora Journeys is your compass, then EXPLORA I is its needle pointing to adventure. In the Caribbean, we find under-the-radar anchorages that offer over-the-top experiences.

We begin in the British playground of choice, Barbados where island safaris and rum tastings make this a world-class destination. Adrift on our dreams, we call on Roseau where shades of emerald green are too vivid to imagine. Verdant, vibrant, Dominica is the ‘Nature Island’ where rain forests wrap slumbering 4,000-foot volcanos, waterfalls tumble in profusion, and life is a throwback to simpler, easier times. Snorkel some of the world’s healthiest corals at Champagne Reef, named for its bubbly geothermal springs. Trek Morne Trois Pintons National Park, a UNESCO jewel with the Mother Nature’s rarest flora and fauna.

On St. Lucia, our lesser-known idle of Castries is more reminiscent of yesterday’s Caribbean. Picturesque plantations and hamlets lead us to an island slopped with forested peaks. Twin Pitons spill into tropical valleys. Sulphur springs bubble with rich mineral waters. Enjoy a quiet picnic on Marigot Bay or drive inside the volcano Soufriére. Steering clear of the tourist zones, we anchor where the yachts congregate at charming Deshaies. Its slightly cosmopolitan flair and charming, languid atmosphere, make this a great place for appreciating the Caribbean the way it was meant to be. Sink your toes in the sand at Grand Anse, which is arguably the island’s prettiest beach, or explore rainforest and French fort ruins on the volcanic mountaintop of Basse-Terre. Naturally uncomplicated. Unbelievably surreal. In St. Barths we enjoy VIP access to the island’s most exclusive hideaways and barefoot-chic beaches reserved for the ambitious and glamourous. Lavished with personalised service, you feel more like a guest on a friend’s private yacht enjoying champagne toasts and chilled caviar.

Captivating and festive, our final call is San Juan where you can feel the heartbeat of Puerto Rican culture. Explore UNESCO sites and toast the city’s Latin flavour at the Bacardi Rum Distillery. This Journey is more than you can imagine and all that you desire in a yachtsman’s Caribbean.

A Yachtsman's Caribbean of Remote Harbourages Itinerary

Day 1 - Bridgetown

Gently breeze into the vibrant capital of Barbados. Steeped in fascinating history, with architecture to match, uncover the wonderfully laid-back West Indian ambiance. Embrace the slow Bajan rhythm of this welcoming island; surf, snorkel and try spotting turtles in balmy azure waters. Explore subterranean Harrison’s Cave, Jacobean St Nicholas Abbey and zipline high above bountiful tropical flora. Then return to restore on pastel pink sands at palm-studded beaches, where you’ll discover cocktail hour is endless, and measures of rum are copious.

Day 2 - Roseau

Soak up the ultimate wellbeing experience at a real life “Nature Island.” Oxygenate in lush rainforests, revive under waterfalls, convene in thermal sprint waters, and detox in volcanic mud baths. Trek Morne Trois Pintons National Park, a UNESCO jewel with the Mother Nature’s rarest flora and fauna. Stir-up true Caribbean soul food; taste callaloo soup; sip spiced rum; and learn how herbs can heal. To cap it all, you can even snorkel in the bubbles of uber-healthy Champagne Reef.

Day 3 - Castries

Wind your way through the romantic island of St Lucia. Hike up the majestic UNESCO-listed Pitons, wallow in a volcanic mud bath, lounge on black sand beaches, explore botanical gardens and venture into a tropical jungle scattered with banana, coconut and mango plantations. Choose between calm Caribbean or choppy Atlantic seas to skim through waters by catamaran, private boat or kayak. Refresh beneath a waterfall, watch gliding whales and enjoy freshly caught mahi mahi with local Piton beer. Or just relax into an inner glow of serenity as you unwind in this tranquil tropical isle.

Day 4 - Deshaies

Slowly amble into little sleepy Deshaies. Stroll around the sheltered bay brimming with Creole homes, restaurants and a cosmopolitan crowd. Stroll along to the best of Guadeloupe; the fine golden sands of Grande Anse and the wonderful botanical garden with dreamy plants and ponds. Visit the Cocoa House for a taste of dark chocolate’s rich roots, climb the summit of La Grande Dame at La Soufriere, wander to waterfalls and visit Christopher Island bird reserve. Coconut palms, protected wildlife and a slow pace – you’ll be filled with love in this relaxed fishing village.

Day 5 - Gustavia

Mingle amongst other discerning guests on this French isle that exudes relaxed glamour. Wander along secluded beaches, harbourside Creole huts, drop into bohemian bars and snorkel gently through warm turquoise waters. Visit La Tourmente, the peaceful salt ponds and admire uninterrupted views on a local boat trip. And as you sip your second (or third) glass of champagne to the lull of the gentle waves, it might be time to learn the French for "paradise found".

Day 7 - San Juan

Explore the oldest US city for a dose of Caribbean history, slice of Spanish culture and twist of American dream. Roam historic Old San Juan alleyways to glimpse centuries-old forts and colourful colonial buildings. Learn how to move, as locals sashay out the salsa to rhythmic reggae beats. Shop the boho streets or glamorous boutiques for artisan goods, decadent designers and hand-rolled cigars. Experience world-class surfing, explore a tropical rainforest, attend a private rum cocktail tasting and polish off empanadas. Then retire to one of the beautiful beaches to soak up crystal clear waters and, perhaps, one last rum cocktail.
