Day 1 - UK - Vancouver (Canada)
Fly from the UK and embark Viking Orion in Vancouver.
Day 2 - Cruising the Inside Passage
Enjoy the ship's facilities on a relaxing day cruising the Inside Passage.
Day 3 - Ketchikan (Alaska)
Ketchikan was home to the Tlingit then white settlers arrived and founded a lawless frontier town. Today this pretty town is home to a picturesque boardwalk and many old and new totem poles. Explore the area's fascinating history and traditional native culture on a unique Duck Boat tour then visit the salmon ladder on Ketchikan Creek.
Day 4 - Sitka
Sitka was once the capital of Russian Alaska and its blend of native, Russian and American history can be seen in the town including the Russian Orthodox Cathedral, the Russian Bishop's House and Sheldon Jackson Museum. Learn more about the 18th-century Russian fur trade on a walking tour of the town, or perhaps take a plane or boat trip for stunning views of Mount Edgecumbe, a nearby extinct volcano.
Day 5 - Juneau
Alaska’s capital, Juneau, is so remote it is inaccessible by road. Explore its dramatic location on a drive to pan for gold near the famous Alaska Junea gold mine and learn more about the history of Juneau's gold discovery. Alternatively, take the Mount Roberts Tramway for breathtaking views of the capital, or take a small boat trip to the Mendenhall Glacier for the chance to spot porpoises and whales along the way.
Day 6 - Skagway
Skagway was the gateway for prospectors arriving during the Klondike gold rush and today the town still evokes an Old West spirit. Take a tour of the town then follow in the footsteps of gold diggers on a drive up White Pass to the Canadian border. Optional excursions include a journey on the famous White Pass Railroad and a visit to a traditional sled dog camp.
Day 7 - Icy Strait Point
Discover Icy Strait Point's restored 1912 salmon cannery and learn how the locals used to make a living from the rich fishing grounds. Visit the Heritage Center Native Theatre for a colourful tribal dance performance by Huna Tlingit natives. Alternatively, take a whale-watching excursion or soar over the breathtaking Glacier Bay National Park on a floatplane.
Day 8 - Cruising Yakutat Bay
Enjoy the ship's facilities on a relaxing day cruising Yakutat Bay.
Day 9 - Valdez
Take a self-guided tour of the remote frontier town of Valdez. Here, colourful boats line the harbour alongside the terminus of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Perhaps discover the fascinating collection of native arts at the Maxine & Jesse Whitney Museum or take an optional excursion to the majestic Columbia Tidal Glacier in Prince William Sound.
Day 10 - Seward
Explore Seward's renowned Alaska SeaLife Center to learn about the marine world that thrives in the ocean here. Alternatively, take an optional trip to the magnificent Exit Glacier or enjoy a thrilling helicopter ride for amazing views of the Kenai Fjords National Park, Chugach National Forest and Resurrection Bay.
Day 11 - Seward - UK
Disembark Viking Orion in Seward and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
Day 12 - UK
Arrive back in the UK.
