Iceland and the Northern Isles 2019 Itinerary

Day 1 - London Tilbury (UK)

Embark Columbus in London Tilbury.

Day 2 - Amsterdam (Netherlands)

Explore the charming and quirky city of Amsterdam with its many quaint coffee shops, beautiful churches and picturesque tree-lined canals. Perhaps discover one of the world-class museums including the Van Gogh Museum, the Anne Frank House and the famous Rijksmuseum.

Day 3 - At Sea

Enjoy the ship’s facilities on a relaxing day at sea.

Day 4 - Lerwick (Shetland Islands)

Lerwick was founded as an unofficial marketplace to service 17th-century Dutch herring fleets. Hay's Dock is home to the Shetland Museum and Archives. On the southern tip of Mainland is the impressive archaeological site of Jarlshof.

Day 5 - Kollafjørður (Faroe Islands)

Kollafjordur is a small fishing port on the northern shore of the Kollafjørdur Fjord. Optional excursions visit the island communities on this isolated archipelago with its wild and dramatic landscape.

Day 6 - Seyðisfjörður (Iceland)

With its multicoloured wooden houses surrounded by snow-capped mountains and cascading waterfalls, beautiful Seyðisfjörður is one of Iceland’s most historically and architecturally interesting towns.

Day 7 - Akureyri

Akureyri lies just below the Arctic Circle, however the climate here is temperate, allowing Akureyri's Botanical Gardens to provide a home for over 2,000 species of flora from around the world. Optional excursions explore highlight Iceland’s extraordinary landscapes including Skutastadir's lunar-like pseudo-craters and the magnificent Godafoss Waterfall. Alternatively, visit the Laufas Folk Museum or Myvatn Nature Baths.

Day 8 - Isafjordur

Isafjordur is located just below the Arctic Circle and surrounded by soaring mountains. The Maritime Museum is a great place to learn about the history of the settlement and the importance of the fishing industry. Perhaps take the optional excursion to the island of Vigur, home to a large eider duck colony.

Day 9 - Reykjavík

Reykjavik is one of the world's smallest capital cities and boasts magnificent mosaics, spectacular sculptures and colourful houses. Perhaps visit the classic 'Golden Circle' with its lava fields, bubbling mud pools and impressive geysers on an optional excursion along with the chance to bathe in the famous Blue Lagoon.

Days 10-12 - At Sea

Enjoy the ship’s facilities on relaxing days at sea.

Day 13 - London Tilbury (UK)

Disembark Columbus in London Tilbury.

For navigational reasons the Captain of the ship reserves the right to modify the cruise itinerary.

Day 1 - London Tilbury (UK)

Day 2 - Rotterdam (Netherlands)

Head to Rotterdam, which has an intriguing mix of old and new architecture. The city was founded in 1328 and today modern glass skyscrapers stand side-by-side with buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Day 3 - At Sea

Enjoy the ship’s facilities on a relaxing day at sea.

Day 4 - Lerwick (Shetland Islands)

Lerwick was founded as an unofficial marketplace to service 17th-century Dutch herring fleets. Hay's Dock is home to the Shetland Museum and Archives. On the southern tip of Mainland is the impressive archaeological site of Jarlshof. Please note, the 9 Aug 2020 itinerary visits Kirkwall (Orkney Islands) instead of Lerwick.

Day 5 - Tórshavn (Faroe Islands)

Once the site of an annual Viking gathering, Tórshavn is today one of the smallest and most pleasant capital cities in the world. Tinganes is the old part of the town where characteristic, red wooden buildings with turf-covered roofs cluster on a narrow peninsula. It juts into the natural harbour around which the modern town has been built. The Faroe Islands have a wild and dramatic landscape, which is a magnificent backdrop to optional excursions showing how islanders live on this remote and unspoiled archipelago.

Day 6 - Seyðisfjörður (Iceland)
