Celebrate the festive season soaking up the sun as Marco Polo heads to the idyllic Canary Islands and Madeira.

Spend Christmas Day at sea and enjoy a delicious Christmas Dinner on board, before arriving in picturesque Gibraltar on Boxing Day. Marco Polo then sets sail for the volcanic Canary Islands. Marco Polo moors overnight in Funchal on the island of Madeira, known as the 'floating garden of the Atlantic'. At midnight on New Year's Eve, watch an incredible firework display over Funchal from the top deck of the ship and enjoy celebrations on board. This superb no-fly holiday ends with a visit to the fascinating Portuguese capital of Lisbon with its beautiful old Alfama district.

Day 1 - Bristol Avonmouth (UK)

Embark Marco Polo in Bristol Avonmouth.

Days 2-3 - At Sea

Enjoy the ship’s facilities during relaxing days at sea.

Day 4 - At Sea

Spend Christmas Day at sea. Enjoy a delicious Christmas Dinner on board.

Day 5 - Gibraltar

Gibraltar and Mt Abyla were known as the Pillars of Hercules in ancient times. Today it is a renowned headland under British rule. Keep an eye out for the famous Barbary apes that live on the island and perhaps enjoy a cable car ride for panoramic views across to Africa.

Day 7 - Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Tenerife, Canary Islands)

Tenerife is the largest island in the Canary archipelago and is overlooked by the imposing Mount Teide. The island's fascinating capital, Santa Cruz, is home to several museums, churches and restaurants. Perhaps visit the exotic gardens of Garcia Sanabria Park or Loro Parque, with its tropical gardens and aquarium.

Day 8 - Arrecife (Lanzarote, Canary Islands)

In the 15th century, Arrecife was a small fishing harbour. Today it is the capital of Lanzarote, the fourth largest island in the Canaries, located just north of the Tropic of Cancer. Perhaps enjoy duty free shopping at Calle Leon y Castila.

Day 9 - Las Palmas (Gran Canaria, Canary Islands)

Las Palmas is the beautiful capital of Gran Canaria and enjoys a sub-tropical climate. Its stunning beaches and soaring peaks have made it a popular destination for tourists. The capital, Las Palmas, has several beautiful parks and a historic centre with spectacular architecture. There are also fascinating museums including the Christopher Columbus Museum.

Days 10-11 - Funchal (Madeira)

Funchal is the capital of Madeira and set in a spectacular natural ampitheatre. As Columbus approaches, admire the whitewashed buildings with red tiled roofs tumbling down the mountain. A cable car runs above the city to Monte, the start of the wicker toboggan ride. Popular souvenirs include wicker baskets and the famous Madeira wine. Enjoy a spectacular New Year's Eve firework display over Funchal.

Day 12 - At Sea

Enjoy the ship’s facilities on a relaxing day at sea.

Day 13 - Lisbon (Portugal)

The Portuguese capital has a quirky charm and much character. The steep, cobbled streets of the ancient Moorish Alfama district lead to wonderful viewpoints looking over the city. Perhaps enjoy a visit to the unique four-storey Belem Tower fortress, the breathtaking Jeronimos Monastery or the modern Monument to the Discoveries, shaped like the prow of a sailing ship. Lisbon's magnificent harbour is spanned by the longest suspension bridge in Europe.

Days 14-15 - At Sea

Enjoy the ship’s facilities during relaxing days at sea.

Day 16 - Bristol Avonmouth (UK)

Disembark Marco Polo in Bristol Avonmouth.
