Inca Mysteries and Machu Picchu Itinerary
Day 1 - San Jose (Costa Rica)
Embark Fram in San Jose.
Day 2 - Puerto Limon
Head towards the Caribbean coast for a boat ride along the Tortuguero Canals before embarking Fram in Puerto Limon.
Day 3 - Bocas del Toro (Panama)
Bocas del Toro is one of Panama's most popular eco-tourism destinations. Home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Panama's first National Marine Park, Bocas del Toro is also one of the most biologically diverse places on earth.
Day 4 - Panama Canal
Enjoy a fascinating transit of the famous Panama Canal, almost 50 miles long and one of the world’s greatest engineering feats.
Day 5 - Puerto Pina
Puerto Piña lies beside the Bahía Piña, a narrow bay which is home to a diversity of marine species including sharks, dolphins, rays and humpback whales. Perhaps go hiking along trails in the jungle, try kayaking or relax on the beach.
Day 6 - At sea
Enjoy the ship's facilities on a relaxing day at sea.
Day 7 - Isla de la Plata (Ecuador)
Isla de la Plata is part of Machalilla National Park, Ecuador’s only coastal national park, and is known as Ecuador’s other Galápagos because of its abundant marine birdlife including blue-footed boobies, nesting waved albatrosses and frigate birds. The island offers fantastic opportunities for hiking, bird watching, swimming and snorkelling.
Day 8 - At sea
Enjoy the ship's facilities on a relaxing day at sea.
Day 9 - Salaverry (Peru)
Salaverry is the gateway to the ancient Chimu kingdom which built its capital on the banks of the Moche River. The UNESCO-listed city of Chan Chan ("Sun Sun") was built with clay, mud, pebbles, straw and cane.
Day 10 - At sea
Enjoy the ship's facilities on a relaxing day at sea.
Day 11 - Callao - Cusco
Disembark ship and transfer to Lima airport for the flight to Cusco, once the centre of the Inca Empire. After lunch visit the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, a stunning example of the Inca's sophisticated construction skills, then transfer to the hotel for dinner and a 2-night stay.
Day 12 - Ollantaytambo - Machu Picchu
After breakfast, travel to the Incan town of Ollantaytambo with its impressive fortress clinging to the cliff. The fortress was the valley's main defence and the site of a victory against the Spanish during the wars of conquest. This rose-coloured structure once housed temples and baths as well as a military barracks. Later, board the Hiram Bingham train and enjoy lunch as you travel to spectacular Machu Picchu, overlooking the Urubamba River. Discover the city's ruins and immerse yourself in history, before having tea at Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. Afterwards, return to the hotel for another overnight stay.
Day 13 - Cusco - Lima - Callao
After breakfast travel to Cusco which was the once the centre of the Inca Empire and is home to a magnificent Baroque-style Cathedral which was built in the 1500s. Head to Koricancha and see the beautiful Dominican Convent of Santo Domingo, built on the foundations of one of the most important Inca temples, the Temple of the Sun. Spend the day exploring before transferring to the airport for your flight to Lima, then transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 14 - Lima
After breakfast check out of the hotel. Perhaps spend time exploring Lima's UNESCO-listed historic centre before your onward journey home.
