Western Front Explorer Itinerary

Day 1 - UK - Amsterdam (Holland)

Fly from your selected airport in the UK to Amsterdam, where you will be met and taken by coach to your luxurious river ship. (D)

Day 2 - Amsterdam

Journey along Amsterdam's canals on a glass-top boat or enjoy a culinary adventure through Jordaan during which you can visit a fishmonger, bakery and cheese store. Tonight, enjoy a Gala Welcome Dinner with fellow guests. (B,L,D)

Day 3 - Rotterdam

This morning, choose from a guided tour of The Hague and see the Dutch Parliament building and the Peace Palace or a visit to Gouda to sample some of the region's finest cheese varieties. This afternoon, explore Rotterdam on a guided tour or discover the city on your own. (B,L,D)

Day 4 - Kinderdijk

Spend the morning exploring Kinderdijk, which is known for having the country's greatest concentration of 18th century windmills. Then stop in Willemstad and enjoy an APT Signature Experience - an incredible private organ recital at the oldest Protestant church in the Netherlands. (B,L,D)

Day 5 - Bruinisse

This morning, cruise to the small town Bruinisse in Zeeland. From here, learn about one of the world's most complex modern engineering projects, the Delta Works. The Delta Works is a series of flood protection systems including storm surge barriers that took more than 30 years to complete. (B,L,D)

Day 6 - Ghent (Belgium)

Today, choose from two excursions. Perhaps explore the Somme Battlefields including Thiepval Memorial and John Monash Centre, or join a guided tour of Ghent which includes a canal cruise. (B,L,D)

Day 7 - Ghent

On your second day in Ghent, discover the Battlefields of Fromelles, including a visit to the Flanders Field Museum, Pheasant Wood Cemetery and the VC Corner Australian Cemetery. You will also have the opportunity to view The Last Post at Menin Gate. Alternatively, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Bruges. (B,L,D)

Day 8 - Ghent

Enjoy a day at leisure. Perhaps take one of the onboard bikes out for a cycle around the city or explore the medieval wonders of Ghent on foot. (B,L,D)

Day 9 - Antwerp

Arrive in Antwerp this morning and join a culinary walk to sample some of Belgium's finest waffles and chocolate. Then attend the very moving Anzac Day Dawn Service at Villers-Bretonneux which commemorates the anniversary of the victory at the Second Battle of Villers-Bretonneux. (Anzac Day Dawn Service only available on 17 April departure). (B,L,D)

Day 10 - Antwerp

Today's excursion is a visit to the Belgium battlefields where you can explore the Tyne Cot Cemetery, Polygon Wood and the Memorial Museum Passchendaele. Alternatively, spend the day exploring Antwerp at your own leisure. (B,L,D)

Day 11 - Maastricht (Holland)

APT Signature Experience - Journey to Château Neercanne and admire the spectacular scenery of the Jeker Valley from its terraces before enjoying a Michelin-starred lunch. This afternoon, see the highlights of Maastricht during a guided tour before spending time at leisure. (B,L,D)

Day 12 - Nijmegen

Today, choose from two excursions. See masterpieces by Claude Monet and Pablo Picasso along with an array of magnificent sculptural art at the Kroller-Muller Museum or visit the Jonkerbos War Cemetery, where more than 1,500 Commonwealth World War II soldiers are buried. (B,L,D)

Day 13 - Arnhem

Discover Arnhem's history at the Airborne Museum, which depicts the Battle of Arnhem in which the Allied Forces attempted to form a bridgehead on the northern banks of the Rhine river in September 1944. Alternatively, discover how Dutch houses, farms and windmills would have appeared centuries ago at the Netherlands Open Air Museum. (B,L,D)

Day 14 - Amsterdam

From Amsterdam, head to the renowned Keukenhof Gardens and admire the incredible display of flowers, including colourful Tulips in bloom. (B,L,D)

Day 15 - Amsterdam - UK

After breakfast, disembark your ship in Amsterdam and transfer to the airport for your return flight home. (B)
