South of France Itinerary
Day 1 - UK - Lyon (France)
Arrive in Lyon and embark your luxury Scenic ship. Enjoy dinner and a welcome reception this evening. (D)
Day 2 - Lyon - Tournus
Relax on board as you cruise along the River Saone to Tournus. Enjoy a guided tour of the magnificent Chateau de Cormatin and its beautiful gardens or sample delicious French truffles in nearby villages. (B,L,D)
Day 3 - Chalon-sur-Saone
This morning enjoy guided sightseeing in Beaune including Les Hospices de Beaune or perhaps head to the estate of Chateau Meursault for a wine tasting. (B,L,D)
Day 4 - Tain L'Hermitage
Today there is the choice between a visit to a local vineyard to taste the region's fine wines or a guided walking tour of the renowned wine growing centre of Tain L'Hermitage where you can enjoy a tasting at Valrhona Chocolates. (B,L,D)
Day 5 - Avignon
Take a walking tour of the magnificent city of Avignon, including entrance to Popes’ Palace and the famed St. Benezet Bridge also known as the Pont d’Avignon. Alternatively, join an excursion to Pont du Gard, an engineering masterpiece dating back to the middle of the first century which was designed to carry water to the city of Nimes. Scenic Enrich: This evening, enjoy an exclusive classical concert at the prestigious Palais-des-Papes.
Day 6 - Avignon
Shop with a Chef at a local food market and cook up a storm in Scenic Culinaire with your fresh ingredients. Alternatively, drop into the villages of the Luberon region, including Gordes and Sénanque Abbey, or sample the celebrated wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape at a Côtes du Rhône vineyard. If you’re feeling more active, you may choose to visit one of the most beautiful villages of France, Roussillon for a guided tour and a visit to the Lavender museum. (B,L,D)
Day 7 - Tarascon
Today you have the choice to tour Arles which has inspired many artists; visit the hilltop village of Les Baux including a visit to an olive farm; or visit the Provencal village of Saint-Remy which was made famous by Vincent Van Gogh, and Saint-Paul de Mausole Monastery. Later, enjoy time at leisure exploring the medieval charm of Tarascon. (B,L,D)
Day 8 - Viviers
Enjoy a walking tour of Viviers this morning with a special organ recital. Later, explore the Ardèche National Park including the Caverne du Pont-d’Arc Museum, a replica museum depicting the collection of engravings, paintings and drawings found in the nearby Chauvet Cave, or visit Bollene Hydroplant and dive into the world of renewable energies. Learn about the hydropower plant, wind farm and the two solar power plants located here. Alternatively, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can kayak through one of Europe’s largest natural canyons, or drop into the beautiful provincial town of Grignan for a guided tour and a visit to the Château, before enjoying some time at leisure to explore on your own.(B,L,D)
Day 9 - 10 - Lyon
Lyon is known as the gastronomic capital of France. Discover Lyon's secret passageways and visit the Notre Dame Basilica, or head to the medieval hilltop town of Perouges. Scenic Enrich: Tonight admire the beauty of one of the city’s greatest baroque buildings, Trinity Chapel. Built in the 17th century, the interior is decadently covered in Carrera marble. Day 11 - Lyon - UK
After breakfast, transfer to Lyon airport for your return journey home. (B)
