Flavours of Burgundy and Provence

Day 1 - UK - Marseille (France)

Fly to Marseille and transfer to the Emerald Liberté luxury star ship in Arles where you will be welcomed by your Captain and crew. Tonight, enjoy a welcome reception and dinner on board.

Day 2 - Arles

Arles, in the heart of the Provence region, became the Roman road to Spain as it could be accessed by sea ships. See the city's highlights on a guided walking tour including the well-preserved 2000-year-old Roman Amphitheatre which is still in use today and was originally built to hold 20,000 spectators in the style of the Colosseum in Rome. Then meet British wine expert, Tim Atkin for a Q&A session and enjoy a Provençale dinner hosted by local Chef Fabien Morreale with wines paired by Master of Wine, Tim Atkin.

Day 3 - Avignon

One of France's most popular destinations, this fortified town was once the residence of the Popes and played a central role in the French Revolution. Enjoy a guided walk through this historical centre strolling the cobbled laneways and browsing the ships, overlooking the famous ‘Pont d’Avignon’. Alternatively, get active with a guided hike in Avignon and/or Yoga lesson on board. This afternoon visit the famous Chateauneuf-du-Pape wine cellars with Tim Atkin who will discuss his thoughts on the wine of the region during a wine-tasting.

Day 4 - Viviers

Enjoy a guided city tour of Viviers. The centre of the Old Town is home to the Saint Vincent Cathedral which dates back to the 12th Century and impressive 16th century Renaissance buildings.

Day 5 - Tournon

Nestled in a valley near the slopes of France's third largest mountain range, Tournon is home to a 16th-century castle and numerous Roman ruins. Enjoy a guided walking tour of Tournon or opt for a guided bike tour of nearby Glun. The area surrounding Tournon has a long tradition in wine making, including the renowned wine growing centre of Tain l'Hermitage across the river. Walk through local vineyards accompanied by US wine expert, Robin Stark before enjoying a regional wine tasting on board with Australian wine expert and Master of Wine, Andrea Pritzker.

Day 6 - Lyon

Today, take part in a guided tour of Lyon, France's third largest city. Drive to the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière, Lyon’s hilltop church and admire the stunning views over the town, then pass by the recently re–discovered Roman amphitheatre before walking through the cobbled streets of the gastronomic old town including the secret laneways. Alternatively, join a guided bike tour of Lyon. This afternoon, enjoy an on-board dessert wine tasting masterclass with US wine expert, Robin Stark and Australian wine expert, Andrea Pritzker.

Day 7 - Chalon-Sur-Saône – Beaune

From Chalon-Sur-Saône in the centre of Burgundy’s wine region, journey to the charming village of Beaune, where you will visit the Hospices de Beaune, one of the finest examples of French fifteenth-century architecture. Here you can admire the multi-coloured roofs of this former hospital, now a museum, which has become one of the symbols of Burgundy. Also, enjoy a visit to the Chateau Meursault accompanied by Canadian wine expert, DJ Kearney for a private wine tasting. This afternoon enjoy free time in Chalon-Sur- Saône followed by a cheese and olive tasting paired with DJ Kearney’s favourite wines.

Day 8 - Lyon - UK

After breakfast, disembark the Emerald Liberté in Lyon and transfer to the airport for your onward or homebound flight.
