Memphis to New Orleans River Itinerary
Day 1 - Memphis (Tennessee, USA)
Join your ship in Memphis, the largest city in Tennessee, offering attractions including music museums, Elvis Presley's Graceland, art galleries and the Memphis Zoo. In the heart of 'Blues City' you'll find the Peabody Memphis, one of the city's most popular attractions. This legendary hotel is famous for its Peabody Ducks which march to and from the Grand Lobby.
Day 2 - Scenic Cruising
Enjoy the facilities on board during a day of scenic cruising along the Mississippi River.
Day 3 - Vicksburg
In Vicksburg, you'll find southern hospitality at its best. With sweeping views of the Mississippi River, Vicksburg perfectly blends southern culture and heritage along with stories of Civil War battles. Enjoy a guided tour of Vicksburg National Military Park and learn about the history of the Civil War. See the restored ironclad gunboat, U.S.S Cairo, and the battlefield where the Siege of Vicksburg too place, plus poignant monuments dedicated to those who lost their lives.
Day 4 - Natchez
Natchez sits high on a bluff above the mighty Mississippi River, a city 300 years in the making. At first glance, Natchez appears to be frozen in time, with perfectly preserved homes and buildings that remind us of days gone by and has 1,000 buildings listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Natchez is also alive in the here and now, filled with arts, music, culture, events, commerce and natural beauty. Enjoy a visit to Longwood, an elegant octagonal house which epitomises the rise and fall of the South. When the Civil War broke out, workmen stopped building so the house was never completed. You'll see the finished first floor as well as the storeys which are still in progress. There is an optional tour of the Frogmore Plantation and optional concert at J.N Stone House.
Day 5 - St Francisville
This quaint southern town is located on the bluffs of the Mississippi River. St Francisville has been called one of the 200 most beautiful small towns in America. A stroll through its historic centre reveals two centuries of architecture and lifestyles. Nearby plantations beckon you back to a time when coquettish southern belles and their chivalrous suitors sipped mint juleps on the shady porches of these grand estates. Enjoy a visit to the Rosedown Plantation and learn about the family history of Daniel and Martha Turnbull and how their experiences transformed the Main House into a home. There will be time to explore the grounds at leisure or enjoy refreshments on the front porch.
Day 6 - Baton Rouge
Experience the wonder of Baton Rouge, Louisiana's capital city with small town charm, rich in culture and heritage. Known affectionately as the Red Stick, Baton Rouge is home to Louisiana's Cajun cuisine, plantations and a variety of attractions. Baton Rouge is a destination with true southern hospitality. Day 7 - Oak Alley
Located on the Mississippi River, between the historic cities of New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Oak Alley Plantation has been called the Grande Dame of the Great River Road. A quarter of a mile canopy of giant oak trees up to 300 years old forms an impressive avenue leading to this classic Greek-revival style antebellum home. This imposing mansion has been restored to its 19th century glory, a noble tribute to those who left their indelible mark on this rich river region. You will visit this impressive mansion during today's guided tour.
Day 8 - New Orleans
Nowhere is this city's spirit more evident than in the famed French Quarter. With its architectural mix of Spanish, French, Creole, and American styles, New Orlean's oldest neighbourhood has exerted a spell over writers and artists since the time of Mark Twain, Lafcadio Hern and John James Audubon. Disembark your ship in New Orleans.
