Join your authentic paddlewheeler in St Louis, renowned for the Gateway Arch. Cruise to Chester on the banks of the Mississippi, which was the birthplace of Popeye's creator Elzie C. Segar, then continue to picturesque Cape Girardeau at the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers, which was visited by Lewis and Clark. The 'Quilt City' of Paducah was founded by William Clark and you can see many works by talented artists, painters and jewellers. The National Quilt Museum can be visited on a fascinating optional excursion.

Dover is home to the breathtaking Fort Donelson National Park and Cross Creeks National Wildlife Refuge, while Clarksville has a wealth of history. Named after General George Rogers Clark, it was a major tobacco port during the 1800s. Enjoy a visit to Fort Defiance, a base for Confederate Tropps during the Civil War.

Cumberland and Mississippi Discovery Itinerary

Day 1 - UK - St Louis (Missouri)

Fly from London to St Louis and transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 2 - St Louis

Today, embark your authentic paddlewheeler in St Louis.

Day 3 - Chester (Mississippi)

Chester is situated on a bluff overlooking the mighty Mississippi River. It has a varied history and is the birthplace of Popeye's creator Elzie C.Segar. There is a six-foot-tall bronze metal Popeye statue in the town. Follow the Popeye Character Trail on an included tour, with highlights including the Popeye statue overlooking Gazebo Park, and Cohen Memorial Home.

Day 4 - Cape Girardeau (Missouri)

Cape Girardeau is close to the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers, and became an important trading post during the 1800s. It was visited by Lewis and Clark and the history resonates throughout the town. Today's complimentary excursion is a guided tour which includes a stop at the Crisp Museum, with fine art exhibits and Native American artifacts. There is an optional tour to the Trail of Tears State Park.

Day 5 - Paducah

Founded by William Clark, Paducah is known as 'Quilt City'. Many talented artists, painters and jewellers display their works here. There is an optional tour of Paducah's three distinct sections, firstly the downtown, then the riverfront, and finally the National Quilt Museum. The second optional excursion is a visit to the River Discovery Center.

Day 6 - Lake Barkley (Kentucky)

Enjoy a day of scenic cruising on Lake Barkley in Western Kentucky.

Day 7 - Dover (Tennessee)

The pretty town of Dover is rich in history as well as natural beauty. The town played a key role in the Civil War and is home to the breathtaking Fort Donelson National Park, as well as the Cross Creeks National Wildlife Refuge. The complimentary excursion takes in Fort Donelson National Military Park. Tour the grounds of the fort, surrender site and National Cemetery.

Day 8 - Clarksville

Explore Clarksville, named after General George Rogers Clark, and a major tobacco port during the 1800s. The Don F.Pratt Memorial Museum houses military memorabilia, while Dunbar Cave is one of the largest caves in the country. Perhaps join the complimentary excursion to Fort Defiance, a hub for trading and settlement for both the Native Americans and Europeans. The fort was a base for the Confederate Troops during the Civil War. The other included tour is a visit to the Customs House Museum, which once housed a Customs House during the flourishing tobacco trade.

Days 9-10 - Nashville

Disembark your ship in Nashville and transfer to your hotel for a 2-night stay with Music Pass.

Day 11 - Nashville - UK

Transfer to the airport for your return flight to London.
