Vietnam and Cambodia Explorer Itinerary

Day 1 - UK - Hanoi (Vietnam)

Fly from London Heathrow or Manchester to Hanoi.

Day 2 - Hanoi

You will be met and transferred to your hotel, the Silk Path Hotel for a two-night stay. This evening there is briefing followed by a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant. (D)

Day 3 - Hanoi

This morning, admire the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum before continuing to Ho Chi Minh's former home and the magnificent One Pillar Pagoda. Later, head to the Temple of Literature and enjoy a walking tour through Hanoi's historic Old Quarter. Enjoy lunch at KOTO restaurant, set up to educate disadvantaged street children. Later, enjoy a traditional water puppet performance and go backstage to meet the puppeteers. (B,L)

Day 4 - Hanoi - Halong Bay

Head to stunning Halong Bay and board your Bhaya Classic Junk or similar for an overnight cruise. Enjoy the magnificent scenery and visit a local fishing village. (B,L,D)

Day 5 - Halong Bay

After breakfast, cruise to an islet and admire one of the caves with its impressive stalagmites and stalactites. Then sail back to the mainland and transfer to Hanoi, where you will board your flight to Danang. On arrival, head to the historic town of Hoi An. Check-in to the Hoi An Historic Hotel for a three-night stay. (B,L)

Day 6 - Hoi An

Explore the old town on foot on a guided tour before joining the Lifestart Foundation which helps the underprivileged become self-sufficient through the production of traditional handicrafts. Later, head to the studio of a local painter where you will learn about the art of Vietnamese painting. Afterwards, take part in a lantern-making class. (B,D)

Day 7 - Hoi An

Explore Hoi An at leisure. Perhaps take a stroll, visit the markets or join an optional Vietnamese cooking class. (B)

Day 8 - Hoi An - Hue

Drive along one of Vietnam's most beautiful roads, over the Hai Van pass for breathtaking views of the coastline before arriving in the former imperial capital of Hue for an overnight stay at the Indochine Palace Hotel. Visit the Imperial Citadel, the seat of the former Nguyen Dynasty before experiencing a traditional cyclo ride through the Doi An to Tinh Tam Lake, where you will board a boat for a cruise down the Perfume River to the iconic Tien Mu Pagoda. Tonight, dress up in royal costume for an imperial banquet. (B,D)

Day 9 - Hue - Ho Chi Minh City

Explore Hue this morning then head to the airport for your flight to Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, for a 2-night stay at the Grand Hotel. (B,D)

Day 10 - Cu Chi Tunnels

Head to the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels where you will join a Vietnamese Veteran and learn about the wars and resourcefulness of the Vietnamese. (B)

Day 11 - Ho Chi Minh City - My Tho

Join an educational city tour with highlights including the Notre Dame Cathedral, Opera House, City hall and War Remnants Museum. Transfer to My Tho port and embark the luxurious Mekong Navigator for your cruise upstream. This evening there is a Vietnamese Theme Highlight Dinner. (B,D)

Day 12 - Cai Be - Sa Dec

Board a sampan and cruise through Cai Be's floating market before heading to a traditional rice factory. Observe village life before stopping at a local brick factory. Later, arrive in Sa Dec and visit the home of Mr Huynh Thuy Le, the inspiration for Marguerite Duras' novel, L'Amant, then stroll through the local market. (B,L,D)

Day 13 - Tan Chau

Cruise to Cao Dai temple then board a traditional Vietnamese tuk-tuk to a mat weaving workshop. Cruise to a floating fish farm and visit Evergreen Island before re-joining your ship and sailing to the border. (B,L,D)

Day 14 - Phnom Penh (Cambodia)

Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital was once known as the Pearl of Asia. Enjoy a city tour by cyclo to the Royal Palace and National Museum before watching a performance by the Cambodian Children's Group. (B,L,D)

Day 15 - Phnom Penh

Visit the Killing Fields, a somber reminder of the atrocities committed by the Khmer Rouge regime. Continue to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, used as the torture headquarters of the Khmer Rouge. (B,L,D)

Day 16 - Angkor Ban

Experience daily life on the Mekong with a visit to Angkor Ban and the chance to meet a local family in their own home. Join the village children in their classroom and learn more about a typical school day. (B,L,D)

Day 17 - Wat Hanchey - Kampong Cham

Enjoy breathtaking views of the Mekong from Wat Hanchey before receiving a traditional Buddhist Water Blessing from the monastery's monks. See Phnom Pros and Phnom Srei as well as the reclining Buddha and the preaching Buddha. Conclude with a visit to the Angkorian-period complex of Wat Nokor Bachey. Return to the ship. Farewell reception and Royal Cambodian Theme Highlight Dinner. (B,L,D)

Day 18 - Kampong Cham - Siem Reap

Disembark the Mekong Navigator and head to Siem Reap, the gateway to the Temples of Angkor for a 2-night stay at the Shinta Mani Shack. Watch the Phare Cambodian Circus, founded to teach disadvantaged young people performing arts. (B)

Day 19 - Angkor Temples

Visit the famous Angkor Wat before continuing to the Ta Prohm temple and the impressive Bayon Temple. Conclude at the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. This evening there is a farewell banquet highlight dinner. (B,D)

Day 20 - Siem Reap - UK

Transfer to Siem Reap for your return flight to the UK. (B)

Day 21 - UK

Arrive back in the UK.
