Highlights of Vietnam and Cambodia Itinerary

Day 1 - UK - Hanoi (Vietnam)

Fly from London Heathrow or Manchester to Hanoi.

Day 2 - Hanoi

Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam and boasts tree-lined lakes and French inspired architecture. You will be met and transferred to your hotel, the Silk Path Hotel for a two-night stay. This evening there is briefing followed by a Welcome Dinner. (D)

Day 3 - Hanoi

This morning, see the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum before continuing to Ho Chi Minh's former home and the One Pillar Pagoda. Later, head to the Temple of Literature and enjoy a walking tour through Hanoi's historic Old Quarter. Enjoy lunch at KOTO restaurant, set up to educate disadvantaged street children in hospitality skills. Later, attend a traditional water puppet performance and go backstage to meet the puppeteers. Day 4 - Hanoi - Halong Bay

Head to stunning Halong Bay and board your Bhaya Classic Junk or similar for a 2-night cruise. Sail through the picturesque bays and islets of this UNESCO World Heritage Site and visit a fishing village to observe life. (B,L,D)

Day 5 - Halong Bay

After breakfast, cruise to an islet and admire one of the caves with its impressive stalagmites and stalactites. After lunch, take an excursion to Cat Ba Island, the largest in Halong Bay. Explore the town with a local guide. (B,L,D)

Day 6 - Halong Bay - Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City

Head to an island with stunning beaches before heading back to the mainland. Transfer to Hanoi and board your flight to Ho Chi Minh City, a city with a turbulent past, for a 2-night stay at the Grand Hotel. (B,L)

Day 7 - Ho Chi Minh City - Cu Chi Tunnels

This morning, head to the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels. Join a Vietnamese Veteran who will tell you about the wars and the resourcefulness of the Vietnamese. (B)

Day 8 - Ho Chi Minh City - My Tho

This morning, take a guided tour of Ho Chi Minh City with highlights including the Notre Dame Cathedral, Old Saigon Post Office and War Remnants Museum. Transfer to My Tho port where you will board the luxurious Mekong Navigator. Enjoy a Welcome Reception and a Vietnamese Theme Highlight Dinner on board. (B,D)

Day 9 - Cai Be - Sa Dec

Board sampans and cruise through Cai Be's floating market, passing the French gothic cathedral. Enjoy a tour of Anh Kiet House before heading to a traditional rice factory and a local brick factory. On arrival in Sa Dec, visit the home of Mr Huynh Thuy Le, the inspiration for Marguerite Duras' novel, L'Amant. You can also enjoy a walking tour through the town's market. (B,L,D)

Day 10 - Tan Chau

Cruise to a Cao Dai temple before boarding a Vietnamese tuk-tuk to a mat weaving workshop. Continue to a floating fish farm and visit Evergreen island, before rejoining the ship and crossing the border into Cambodia. (B,L,D)

Day 11 - Phnom Penh (Cambodia)

Phnom Penh, Cambodia's colourful capital, was once known as the Pearl of Asia. Board a cyclo for a city tour to see the magnificent Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and National Museum before watching a performance by the Cambodian Children's Group, which includes Cambodia's national dance. (B,L,D)

Day 12 - Phnom Penh

Begin with a visit to the infamous Killing Fields then continue to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, the torture headquarters of the Khmer Rouge. (B,L,D)

Day 13 - Angkor Ban

Experience daily life on the Mekong with a visit to Angkor Ban and the chance to meet a local family in their own home. Join the village children in their classroom and learn more about a typical school day. (B,L,D)

Day 14 - Wat Hanchey - Kampong Cham

Enjoy spectacular views of the Mekong from Wat Hanchey, before receiving a traditional Buddhist Water Blessing from the resident monks. Admire Phnom Pros and Phnom Srei as well as the preaching Buddha, before concluding with a visit to the complex of Wat Nokor Bachey. Rejoin the ship and enjoy a farewell reception and Royal Cambodian Theme Highlight Dinner. (B,L,D)

Day 15 - Kampong Cham - Siem Reap

Disembark Mekong Navigator and transfer to Siem Reap, the gateway to the Temples of Angkor, for a 2-night hotel stay at the Shinta Mani Shack. Later, visit the Phare Cambodian Circus, set up to help disadvantaged young people. (B)

Day 16 - Angkor Temples

Begin the day at the iconic Angkor Wat before continuing to Ta Prohm temple, Bayon temple and the Terrace of the Elephants. Farewell Banquet Highlight Dinner this evening. (B,D)

Day 17 - Siem Reap - UK

Head to Siem Reap airport for your return flight to the UK. (B)

Day 18 - UK

Arrive back in the UK.
