Lisbon and the Douro River Itinerary
Day 1 - UK - Lisbon (Portugal)
Choose from a selection of regional airports. On arrival in Lisbon, you will be met and transferred to the Sheraton Lisbon or similar for a three-night stay. Tonight, enjoy a Welcome Reception. (D)
Day 2 - Lisbon
Enjoy a guided tour of Lisbon this morning with highlights including the Belem Tower and the Monument to the Explorers. Later, choose from a selection of Scenic FreeChoice excursions, including a trip to the Maritime Museum or Sintra Palace in the hilltop town of Sintra. (B)
Day 3 - Lisbon
Spend the day at leisure in Lisbon. Perhaps visit the fashionable boutiques in the city centre, explore the surrounding villages or relax on the beautiful beaches. Your Tour Director will be on hand to advise you. (B, D)
Day 4 - Lisbon - Porto
Travel to Porto, arriving this afternoon. Transfer to your luxurious ship, Scenic Azure and settle into your cabin. Tonight, there is a Welcome Reception on board. (B,D)
Day 5 - Porto - Entre-os-Rios
The World Heritage city of Porto was an outpost of the Roman Empire and is one of the oldest European centres. Discover the treasures of this city, including Palacio da Bolsa, on an included tour or opt for the walking tour which includes a cable car ride, before spending a relaxing afternoon cruising along the Douro on the way to Entre-os-Rios. Day 6 - Entre-os-Rios - Regua
Today, choose from two Scenic FreeChoice excursions. The first is a visit to Guimaraes which was the seat of the first King of Portugal. See the magnificent medieval castle on a guided tour. Alternatively, travel to Quinta Aveleda, a famous regional wine producer where you can enjoy a tasting. In Regua you can explore the Douro Museum at your own pace. (B,L,D)
Day 7 - Regua
Enjoy a guided tour of Lamego with its impressive Baroque architecture or visit the 18th-century Mateus Palace on a Scenic FreeChoice excursion. Travel to the beautiful Varosa Valley and visit the beautiful village of Tarouca. (B,L,D)
Day 8 - Regua - Vega de Terron
Spend a full day cruising the Douro Valley's Vinhateiro wine growing region. It is classified as a World Heritage Site and its port wine has been world famous since the 18th century. The tradition of viticulture has resulted in a landscape of unique beauty matched by the warmth of locals. (B,L,D)
Day 9 - Salamanca (Spain)
This morning there is a scenic drive through Spanish farmlands to the World Heritage city of Salamanca, renowned for its ornate sandstone architecture. (B,L,D)
Day 10 - Pocinho (Portugal) - Pinhao
Leisurely cruising over breakfast to Pocinho, our gateway to the remote Coa Valley. You can choose from three Scenic FreeChoice excursions today. Visit the award winning Coa Valley Museum and take part in a pre-historic workshop on a guided tour, enjoy a canoeing excursion on the Sabor River or perhaps join a tastes of the Coa valley excursion. Enjoy a cocktail on deck whilst cruising this picturesque stretch of river. Tonight there is a traditional Portuguese music performance on board. (B,L,D)
Day 11 - Pinhao
Explore the beautiful village of Provesende with the locals as they introduce you to their way of life. You'll also visit the church for a special recital and enjoy a wine tasting at Morgadio da Calcada. There is also a Freechoice excursion to a local quinta estate for tasting of their famous export, or an energetic hike through the vineyards for a tasting among the vines. (B,L,D)
Day 12 - Pinhao - Porto
Enjoy an exclusive Douro Valley Wine Review and onboard activities as you head to Porto. Take part in a Scenic Enrich experience this evening. Enjoy a spectacular private music performance at the beautiful Sao Francisco Church. (B,L,D)
Day 13 - Porto
Enjoy a visit to Aveiro which includes a cruise along its waterways, or head to a local corking factory. Alternatively, travel to Vila Nova de Gaia for a tasting of the region's famous port. (B,L,D)
Day 14 - Porto - UK
After breakfast, disembark in Porto and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. (B)
