Enticing Douro Itinerary
Day 1 - Porto (Portugal)
Embark ship in Porto. Tonight, get to know your fellow travellers at the Captain's Gala Welcome Dinner. (D)
Day 2 - Porto - Regua
Cruise along the Douro river to Regua. Join the excursion to historic Lamego to see the beautifully decorated shrine, Gothic cathedral and museum, or hike up the 700 steps to the top of the shrine. Next sample local delicacies including specialty hams and Espumante sparkling wine then visit the Episcopal Palace Museum. In 2018 there is then time at leisure or a visit to the Douro Museum in Regua to learn about the history and culture of the area. (B,L,D)
Day 3 - Regua - Barca d'Alva
Cruise through beautiful scenery to Barca d'Alva. Visit Castelo Rodrigo, or take the active hike, admire the unique fountain Chafariz dos Pretos and taste some delicious local produce. (B,L,D)
Day 4 - Salamanca - Vega de Terron (Portugal)
Drive to UNESCO-listed Salamanca built of golden sandstone. On a guided tour admire the city's elegant university buildings, the majestic Cathedral and the spectacular House of Shells, then enjoy a traditional Flamenco show. In 2018 there is the option to visit the Coa Valley Archaeological Park to see the Paleolithic rocks. (B,L,D)
Day 5 - Vega de Terron - Pinhao
Enjoy a tour and an exclusive lunch at Quinta da Roeda (2018) whose estate is home to one of Douro's finest vineyards or Quinta da Avessada (2019). This is followed by a tasting and private tour of the wine cellars at Quinta do Seixo. (B,L,D)
Day 6 - Regua - Entre Os Rios
Cruise to Regua for a morning excursion of the Palacio de Mateus and its beautiful gardens. Return to the ship for lunch and cruise to Entre-os-Rios. Enjoy a special dinner at Quinta de Aveleda (2018) or a glass of port wine on the terrace of Alpendurada Monastery followed by a traditional meal (2019). (B,L,D)
Day 7 - Porto
Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Porto including the historical quarter, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Porto Cathedral and the Sao Bento Railway station with its renowned blue and white tiles then enjoy a tasting of Port wine. In 2018 you can also take a short journey to the nearby coastal town for the 'Tastes of Matosinhos' tour where you will visit a traditional restaurnt serving Pataniscas, a traditional cod fisk cake and other regional snacks, or join the Jewish tour. In 2019 there is the option to hike to the winery for the port tasting. (B,L,D)
