The romantic city of Vienna is the former capital of the Habsburg Empire and home to the famous Ringstrasse and Dorotheum, one of the largest auction houses in Europe. You'll be treated to an exclusive reception at the baroque Spanish Riding School at the Hofburg Palace and watch the morning exercise during your time in this beautiful city. Continue to pretty Krems, gateway to the awe-inspiring Wachau Valley. Explore the well-preserved Old Town during a guided tour of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Highlights of the Danube Itinerary

Day 1 - UK - Budapest (Hungary)

Enjoy pre-flight refreshments at London Heathrow before boarding your flight to Budapest where you'll embark Royal Crown. After dinner onboard, there is entertainment by local gypsy musicians in the lounge.

Day 2 - Budapest

Enjoy a tour of the Hungarian capital which takes in the beautiful old quarter, St Matthias church and the ornate Fisherman's Bastion which offers breathtaking views across the Danube. Aquincum was once a major Roman city within the limits of Budapest. The ancient ruins were discovered near the end of the 19th century, and it's now one of the largest archaeological sites in Hungary. Stroll along the streets and see the city's temples, houses and thermal baths. This evening, cruise past Budapest's illuminated waterfront.

Day 3 - Szentendre

Picturesque Szentendre has lots of fascinating museums and galleries. Its stunning location has attracted artists throughout the years including ceramic sculptor Margit Kovacs. Her main themes were folk art and religious art, in particular Bible stories. She donated the majority of her work to the town.

Day 4 - Bratislava (Slovakia)

Visit the Slovakian capital of Bratislava. A guided tour of the old town takes in key sights including St Michael's Gate, St Martin's Cathedral and the neo-classical Primate's Palace. The tour concludes with a string quarter recital in the gothic Klarissen Church, before heading out into the Carpathian mountains to enjoy a wine tasting.

Day 5 - Vienna (Austria)

Cruise to Vienna, former capital of the Habsburg Empire. Enjoy a panoramic tour which takes in the famous Ringstrasse and Old Quarter, overlooked by St Stephen's Cathedral. The highlight is an exclusive reception at the baroque Spanish Riding School at the Hofburg Palace, before taking a seat to watch the morning exercise, a fascinating insight into the training of the riders and world-famous Lipizzaner stallions. At the Winter Riding School, see the 'white star's' accompanied by classical Viennese music. You'll also visit the stables which have been housed in the Stallburg for over 450 years. After dinner onboard, enjoy entertainment from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

Day 6 - Krems

Krems is the gateway to the breathtaking Wachau Valley and one of Austria's oldest cities. During your tour of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, exploring the virtually unchanged Old Town. The Krems Valley is one of the oldest wine regions in Austria and you'll have the opportunity to sample some.

Day 7 - Spitz - Melk

The town of Spitz offers stunning Baroque and Renaissance architecture. It is renowned for its vine clad hills, wine production and saffron. During lunch, cruise through the spectacular Wachau Valley to the pretty town of Melk, home to the impressive Benedictine Abbey.

Day 8 - Pochlarn

Artstetten Castle is located high above the Danube in a beautiful park and has seven distinctive towers. It is the final resting place of Crown Prince Franz Ferdinand and his wife. The Archduke Franz Ferdinand Museum provides a fascinating insight into the prince's eventful life.

Day 9 - Linz

From Linz, set off on a full day tour to Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart. The Old Town of Salzburg is renowned for its architecture and is a designed UNESCO World Heritage Site. After a tour of the Old Town, visit the international acclaimed Mozarteum University.

Day 10 - Passau (Germany) - UK

After breakfast, disembark Royal Crown and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
