Delightful Danube Itinerary
Day 1 - UK - Nuremberg (Germany)
Fly from the UK to Munich where you will be transferred to the Le Meridien Grand Hotel in Nuremberg for an overnight stay.
Day 2 - Nuremberg
This morning, join a tour of the city with a focus on World War II before embarking the ship and settling in to your cabin. Enjoy a Welcome Reception on board this evening before the ship departs the illuminated city of Nuremberg. (B,L,D)
Day 3 - Regensburg
Your ship moors in medieval Regensburg. Explore this beautiful city with a local guide and admire some of the iconic sights, including the impressive Stone Bridge and soaring Regensburg Cathedral. (B,L,D)
Day 4 - Passau - Linz (Austria)
Passau is located at the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers. A guided walking tour takes you past the Altes Rathaus or Old Town Hall as well as several of the city's finest baroque buildings. There is the opportunity to join an excursion to Salzburg, the setting for "The Sound of Music". Alternatively, head to Czech Krumlov (own expense). Rejoin your ship and cruise across the border into Austria. (B,L,D)
Day 5 - Melk - Durnstein
Discover Melk's impressive Benedictine Abbey located on an outcrop overlooking the beautiful Danube. The abbey is home to several practising monks and ornate frescoes. Later, rejoin the ship and cruise to Durnstein with its winding cobbled streets, traditional taverns and 16th-century town houses. Overlooking the town are the ruins of the castle where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned. (B,L,D)
Day 6 - 7 - Vienna
An overnight stop in Vienna allows ample time to see the sights. Join a guided walking tour which takes in St Stephen's Cathedral, Hofburg Palace and the Albertina. Later, you may wish to visit the famous Naschmarkt and sample the local specialties including Kaiserschmarm. The following day is at leisure. Perhaps take the optional excursion to the magnificent Schonbrunn Palace or the Slovakian capital of Bratislava (extra cost). (B,L,D)
Day 8 - Budapest (Hungary)
Arrive in the Hungarian capital of Budapest. A local guide will bring the city to life and show you the key sights, including the ornate Fisherman's Bastion, Mathias Church and Heroes' Square, as well as the iconic Hungarian Parliament. This evening, enjoy a twilight cruise past the city's illuminated buildings after the Captain's Farewell Dinner. (B,L,D)
Day 9 - Budapest - UK
After breakfast, disembark and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. (B)
