Discover a wealth of art, history and culture as you cruise through the heart of Germany and Austria.

Begin your holiday exploring the historic city of Nuremberg with its imperial castle before cruising the Main-Danube Canal to Regensburg, one of Germany's best preserved medieval cities. Visit the Bavarian town of Passau, home to the world's largest cathedral organ then cruise to Linz, from where there is the option to visit Salzburg, Mozart's birthplace and the setting for The Sound of Music.

Explore Melk's magnificent Benedictine Abbey then sail through the charming Wachau Valley to Durnstein, one of the prettiest towns on the Danube, and Krems. Arrive in Austria's capital, Vienna to visit the city's splendid sights, including St Stephens Cathedral and the impressive Opera House.

Danube Serenade Itinerary

Day 1 - Nuremberg (Germany)

Embark your ship in Nuremberg. Tonight, enjoy a Welcome Dinner on board. (D)

Day 2 - Nuremberg

Today, decide to either enjoy a tour showcasing the medieval history of Nuremberg taking in the storybook 900-year-old ramparts that surround this historic city and the Imperial Castle, or join the WWII tour to see the Nazi Parade Ground, Coliseum and the Justice Palace where the War Crimes Tribunal sat in 1946. The ship then cruises along the Main-Danube canal. (B,L,D)

Day 3 - Regensburg

Arrive in Regensburg this afternoon, one of Germany's best preserved medieval cities. See the highlights on a guided tour including the Old Town Hall and Porta Praetoria, join in a Bavarian Specialties tasting or take the Walhalla guided bike tour. (B,L,D)

Day 4 - Passau

Arrive in Passau where the Inn, Ilz and Danube rivers meet. Explore Passau on a guided walking tour of the Old Town and visit St Stephan's Cathedral, home to the world's largest organ, or the more active may prefer to join the bike ride along the Danube or the hike up to the Veste Oberhaus fortress. Day 5 - Linz (Austria)

In Linz, the second largest city in Austria, take a guided walking or cycling tour to the highlights. Later, choose to visit the picturesque Salzkammergut region which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, explore the medieval Czech town of Cesky Krumlov or visit Salzburg, famous for the setting of the Sound of Music. Day 6 - Melk - Durnstein - Krems

Tour Melk's majestic Abbey or join a guided bike ride along the Danube. Cruise through the Wachau Valley to Durnstein, one of the prettiest towns along the Danube. Enjoy a walking tour of the town followed by a wine tasting; hike up to the castle where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned; or try an apricots and sweets tasting. This evening in Krems there is a choice between a walking tour and a wine tasting. (B,L,D)

Day 7 - Vienna

Discover the impressive city of Venice including the Vienna Opera House and St Stephen's Cathedral on a panoramic tour; enjoy an exclusive Sacher and Sekt experience; join the guided bike ride along the Danube or the bike tour to Klosterneuberg Monastery. In the afternoon there is free time to explore this superb city at leisure. (B,L,D)

Day 8 - Vienna

Disembark your ship in Vienna. (B)
