Danube Delights Itinerary
Day 1 - UK – Regensburg (Germany)
Fly from a choice of UK regional airports to Munich where you’ll be met and transferred by coach to your deluxe ship in Regensburg. (D)
Day 2 - Regensburg
This morning, cruise the final stretch of the Main-Danube Canal before continuing along the Danube to medieval Regensburg. Enjoy a guided walking tour with highlights including the picturesque Old Town Hall. This evening’s on-board entertainment is a traditional Bavarian Band. Welcome dinner this evening. (B,L,D)
Day 3 - Passau
Take a walking tour of Passau, situated at the confluence of the rivers Danube, Inn and Ilz. Stroll along the cobblestone streets, see the magnificent hilltop Oberhaus Fortress and discover the ornate architecture of St Stephen’s cathedral, home to the world’s largest cathedral organ. There is also a guided hike to Veste Oberhaus, and an optional visit to the Bavarian Forest. (B,L,D)
Day 4 - Melk (Austria) – Durnstein
Enjoy a guided tour of Melk Abbey or join the bike ride from Melk to Durnstein. Later, cruise the stunning Wachau Valley to Durnstein. Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned at Durnstein Castle after returning from the crusades. Those feeling active can join a guided hike to the castle. (B,L,D)
Day 5 - Vienna
Vienna, known as the 'City of Music' is a fascinating fusion of old and new. Enjoy a coach tour along the Ringstrasse where you’ll see the famous Opera House and Hofburg Imperial Palace, before exploring on foot. Alternatively, the more active can join the guided bike tour of the city. There is the option to join a Tastes of Vienna tour. This evening, there is an optional trip to a Viennese concert. (B,L,D)
Day 6 - Bratislava (Slovakia)
Explore Bratislava on a guided tour of the Old Town which is home to many historical buildings including the magnificent Mirbach Palace, impressive Gothic cathedral of St Martin and Michael’s Gate, one of the oldest of the town’s structures. Alternatively, join a guided hike to Bratislava Castle. Later, enjoy a special afternoon tea with a local Slovakian family, before heading back to the ship for the Captain’s Gala Dinner. (B,L,D)
Day 7 - Budapest (Hungary)
Arrive in Budapest, Eastern Europe’s most cosmopolitan city and home to many UNESCO World Heritage Sites including the Buda Castle Quarter and Heroes’ Square. Your guided tour takes you to the sights including the iconic Chain Bridge. There is also the option to join a guided hike up Buda Hill. Perhaps join the optional tour to Szentendre, or on selected dates, the Jewish Heritage tour. The day concludes with a traditional Hungarian Farewell Dinner with folk music. (B,L,D)
Day 8 - Budapest - UK
After breakfast, disembark your ship and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. (B)
