See Nuremberg's impressive 900-year old ramparts, the Justice Palace where the War Crimes Tribunal took place, and the Nazi party rally grounds during a guided tour, before cruising the Main-Danube Canal to Regensburg, one of Germany's best- preserved medieval cities. Admire the splendid architecture and enjoy traditional music on board from a Bavarian Band.

The beautiful town of Passau is overlooked by the majestic St Stephen's Cathedral, home to Europe's largest church organ, and the lively city of Linz has a beautiful Baroque Hauptplatz. Explore Melk, renowned for its ornate 900-year old Benedictine Abbey, before cruising through the awe-inspiring scenery of the Wachau Valley and arriving in picturesque Durnstein. Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned in the castle here after he returned from the crusades in the 12th century.

Enjoy an overnight stop in Vienna, a city associated with classical music. A drive along the famous Ringstrasse showcases the opulent Opera House, the imposing St Stephen's Cathedral and many more iconic sights.

Classic River Danube Itinerary

Day 1 - UK - Munich (Germany) - Nuremberg

Fly from a choice of up to 15 UK regional airports to Munich, from where you'll transfer to your ship moored in Nuremberg. Nuremberg is located on the Main-Danube Canal, a feat of engineering which links the rivers of Germany with the legendary Danube. (D)

Day 2 - Nuremberg

Enjoy a sightseeing coach tour of this historic city, with highlights including the 900-year old ramparts, the Justice Palace where the War Crimes Tribunal took place, and the Nazi party rally grounds. Later, take a self-guided tour of the WWII Documentation or perhaps spend time at leisure. (B,L,D)

Day 3 - Regensburg

This morning, you'll cruise the last stretch of the Main-Danube Canal to Regensburg, one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Germany. Join the guided walking tour, during which you'll have the chance to see the city's stunning architecture and one of the oldest bridges crossing the Danube. There are two special EmeraldPLUS experiences - a traditional Bavarian Band on board, and an Organ Concert. (B,L,D)

Day 4 - Passau

Join a walking tour this morning, taking in the narrow alleys. Admire the magnificent Oberhaus Fortress from the town below, and visit the majestic St Stephen's Cathedral, a splendid example of Baroque architecture and home to Europe's largest church organ with over 17,000 pipes. Alternatively, enjoy a hike around the Passau area. Rejoin the ship for lunch and spend the afternoon cruising. There are two optional excursions available today - a visit to the Open Air Museum and a Bavarian Beer evening. (B,L,D)

Day 5 - Linz (Austria)

Linz is a lively and modern city with an eventful history. The architecture is outstanding especially the unique Baroque Hauptplatz. Following a tour, spend time at leisure in the beautiful old quarter or perhaps enjoy a drink and local specialities in one of the coffee houses. (B,L,D)

Day 6 - Melk - Durnstein

Melk is located within Austria's wine-growing region and home to a splendid 900-year old Benedictine Abbey, a stunning example of Italian baroque architecture. Later, the ship cruises through the breathtaking Wachau Valley and on to pretty Durnstein. Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned in the castle after returning from the crusades in the 12th century. For those feeling active, there are two EmeraldACTIVE excursions today - a guided bike tour along the Danube from Melk to Durnstein, and a guided hike to Durnstein Castle. (B,L,D)

Day 7 - Vienna

Vienna is renowned for its classical music. See the sights including the Opera House and St Stephen's Cathedral during a drive along the Ringstrasse or opt for the guided bike tour. There is an optional exclusive Viennese concert available with music from Mozart and Strauss. (B,L,D)

Day 8 - Vienna - UK

Disembark your ship and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. (B)
