Discover the real Burma as you journey along the mighty Irrawaddy river on this luxury cruise and land tour.

Take part in the oil lamp tradition at the iconic Shwedagon Pagoda during your two-night stay in the lively city of Yangon. Visit the incredible Ananda Temple before boarding your ship to begin the cruise along the beautiful Irrawaddy. See the sights of Magwe on a traditional trishaw, experience a traditional local Burmese tea in a restored colonial villa in Salay, and enjoy an overnight stop in Bagan, one of the most awe-inspiring archaeological sites in the world.

Continue to the pottery village of Yandabo and observe craftsmen at work, admire the unfinished pagoda and the famous Mingun Bell in Mingun, and enjoy a special visit to a monastic school in Sagaing. Continue to Amarapura for a special Sundowner experience as you relax with drinks in boats under U Bein Bridge at sunset.

Mystical Irrawaddy Itinerary

Days 1-2 - UK - Yangon (Burma)

Fly from a choice of UK airports to Yangon. The following day, arrive in Yangon and settle into your hotel. Meet your Scenic Tour Director and fellow guests at your welcome briefing followed by a welcome dinner at the iconic Colonial Strand Hotel. (D)

Day 3 - Yangon

Today, there is a choice of excursions. Perhaps discover Yangon's thriving art scene or enjoy a ferry ride across the Yangon River to Dhala. Visit Yangon's reclining Buddha, Chautatgyi Paya. This evening, there is a unique Scenic Enrich experience. At sunset, learn about the oil lamp lighting tradition before taking part in this tradition at the Shwedagon Pagoda. (B,L)

Day 4 - Yangon - Bagan

Transfer to the airport and fly to Bagan and then enjoy a local lunch before visiting the most iconic sight of this hypnotic region, the Ananda Temple. Later, board your ship and enjoy a welcome cocktail. (B,L,D)

Day 5 - Magwe

Enjoy a day of cruising en route to Magwe, arriving late afternoon. (B,L,D)

Day 6 - Magwe

See the sights of Magwe on a traditional trishaw and enjoy breathtaking views from the magnificent Mya Tha Lun Pagoda situated on Naguttama Hill, before rejoining the ship and cruising to Minhla Fort. Later, cruise to Salay. (B,L,D)

Day 7 - Salay

Enjoy the ship's luxurious facilities as you spend the day cruising to Salay, arriving late afternoon. (B,L,D)

Day 8 - Salay - Bagan

Enjoy a morning walking tour of Salay taking in the colonial buildings, the Youqson Kyaung and the largest lacquer Buddha in Myanmar. Scenic Enrich: Soak up the colonial feel of the town while enjoying traditional local Burmese tea and snacks in a restored colonial villa. Later, continue cruising to Bagan and see the temples and pagodas lining the river as you approach. (B,L,D)

Day 9 - Bagan

Wake up early and attend morning alms for the local monks. Afterwards, head to Mount Popa or cross the river to Tant Kyi Tuang to take in incredible views of Bagan. Alternatively, stroll through the markets at Nyaung U before exploring the Temple Circuit or visiting Old Bagan. Scenic Enrich: Enjoy an exclusive mystical themed dinner with free flowing drinks and a cultural show in front of Bagan's candlelit temple ruins. (B,L,D)

Day 10 - Bagan - Pakkoku

Today there is an optional hot air balloon flight which must be purchased prior to the cruise. Today's included excursion is a ride by horse and cart through Bagan plain and its temple ruins before learning about the production of Burmese lacquerware. Return to the ship and sail to Pakkoku for an overnight stop. Here, visit a cheroot cigar workshop, the local market and longyi and blanket factory. (B,L,D)

Day 11 - Yandabo

The peace treaty ending the First Anglo-Burmese War was signed in Yandabo. It is renowned for its pottery and you can see the artisans honing their craft on a walk through the village. Return to the ship and cruise to Mingun. (B,L,D)

Day 12 - Mingun

Cruise to Mingun, home to an unfinished brick pagoda and the renowned Mingun Bell, plus the magnificent white Hsinbyume Pagoda. (B,L,D)

Day 13 - Sagaing - Mandalay - Amarapura

Scenic Enrich: Interact with novice monks, nuns and orphans during a visit to a monastic supported school before continuing to a quiet nunnery where you will partake in the ritual and our donation to the resident nuns before their midday meal. Later, take in the views over the river from Sagaing Hill before cruising to Mandalay to visit Amarapura. Enjoy a special Sundowner in Amarapura as you relax with drinks in boats under U-Bein Bridge at sunset. Back on board, there is a farewell by the crew. (B,L,D)

Day 14 - Mandalay

Disembark in Mandalay. Admire the magnificent Shwenandaw and Kuthodaw Pagodas before enjoying a walk through the Mandalay Palace, rebuilt after being destroyed during World War II. Scenic Enrich: Enjoy a visit to a golf leaf workshop before heading to the Mahamuni Pagoda where males can place a gold leaf onto the Buddha. Later, enjoy a farewell dinner this evening and enjoying an overnight stay. (B,L,D)

Day 15 - Mandalay - UK

Check-out of the hotel and and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.

Day 16 - UK

Arrive back in the UK.
