Explore Aquitaine in the heart of south-west France, fortified by English king Henry II and his successors, leaving behind a legacy of ancient castles and fortified bastide towns.

Bordeaux itself is a World Heritage site with over 350 classified buildings. Cruise to Pauillac for optional excursions to the famous Médoc vineyards. In Royan an included panoramic tour uncovers the town's charming 1950s waterfront houses. An optional excursion to the seaside cities of Rochefort and La Rochelle reveals lovely half-timbered buildings, private mansions and a historic rope-making factory. Discover the Roman remains in Saintes on an optional tour, and perhaps explore the beautiful seaside village of Talmont-sur-Gironde and the cliff cave dwellings of Meschers-sur-Gironde.

Cruise up the Dordogne to Libourne for an optional tour of St Emilion's famous underground monuments before returning to Bordeaux where there is an optional tour of the city at night (pre-booking essential). From Cadillac there is an optional excursion to the prestigious Chateau de Roquetaillade or a gourmet walking tour of Cadillac before returning to Bordeaux where there is the chance to explore Arcachon with a tour of the museum and an oyster-tasting session. Alternatively there is an optional guided tour of Bordeaux or a visit to the Cité du Vin wine centre.

BYH - Bordeaux and Aquitaine Itinerary

Day 1 - Bordeaux (France) - Pauillac

Board your ship at 6pm in Bordeaux. After settling into your cabin, enjoy a welcome drink in the lounge and meet the crew. The ship will begin to cruise along the rivers Garonne and Gironde towards Pauillac.

Day 2 - Pauillac - Royan

Today choose from two optional excursions: visit the Medoc, a renowned wine region, for a tasting of famous wines; or visit the Medoc through biking, wine and cheese. This afternoon cruise along the Gironde to Royan where there is an included panoramic tour of the town and its waterfront.

Day 3 - Royan

Today's optional excursion from Royan explores historic Rochefort with a visit to its Corderie Royale rope-making factory, and La Rochelle where there will be a stop for lunch in a local restaurant and a guided tour of the old town and port.

Day 4 - Royan - Libourne

This morning there is an optional excursion to Saintes to see its Roman theatre and Saint-Eutrope Basilica. This afternoon there is the chance to visit the typical French seaside village of Talmont-sur-Gironde and the cave dwellings in Meschers-sur-Gironde. The rest of the day is spent cruising up the Dordogne to Libourne.

Day 5 - Libourne - Bordeaux

Join the optional excursion to Saint-Emilion for a guided tour of its underground monuments then head to a vineyard for a tasting of local products. Spend the afternoon cruising towards Bordeaux. Perhaps take the optional guided tour of Bordeaux and see the city's sights illuminated at night (must be booked in advance).

Day 6 - Bordeaux - Cadillac

Cruise along the Garonne to Cadillac. Optional excursions include a visit to magnificent Château de Roquetaillade with a tasting of Sauternes wine at a wine cellar, or a gourmet walk through Cadillac with wine-tasting session. Spend the afternoon cruising towards Bordeaux. Gala evening on board.

Day 7 - Bordeaux

Today's optional excursions include a visit to Arcachon to tour its museum and enjoy oyster tasting. Alternatively, there is a guided tour of Bordeaux or a visit to the Cité du Vin to learn more about the world of wine. This afternoon there is time to explore Bordeaux at leisure.

Day 8 - Bordeaux

After breakfast on board, disembark ship in Bordeaux.

For navigational reasons the Captain of the ship reserves the right to modify the cruise itinerary.
