Day 1 - UK - Bordeauxn (France)

Fly from the UK to Bordeaux. Transfer to the ship. Enjoy a welcome reception this evening. (D)

Day 2 - Libourne - Saint-Emilion

Cruise the scenic Garonne and Dordogne Rivers to arrive in the 13th-century port town of Libourne. Spend your afternoon exploring the ancient village of Saint- Emilion which boasts charming cobbled alleyways and half-timbered houses set above rolling vineyards. Enjoy a guided tour of the magnificent Monolithic Church and fascinating catacombs which were carved out of a limestone hill in the 12th century. (B,L,D)

Day 3 - Libourne - Bergerac - Pauillac

Today you have the choice of numerous shore excursions, perhaps taste grand cru classé at the Château Franc Mayne or journey to Bergerac where you can sample delicious foie gras at a local farm. Alternatively, enjoy a scenic bike ride out of the city stopping at historic wine estates and passing charming vineyards on the way. Visit a chateaux owned by relatives of National Geographic Explorer Jacques Cousteau. (B,L,D)

Day 4 - Pauillac - Medoc

Explore the scenic Medoc wine route today, walk from one historic wine estate to the next, sample delicious local vintages, capture images alongside our National Geographic photographer and enjoy interesting insights from our on-board expert. Alternatively, cycle to Château Lagrange, featured on Napoleon III’s Official Classification of Bordeaux wines in 1855. This evening, journey to the majestic and medieval Château d’Agassac for a classic music performance. (B,L,D)

Day 5 - Pauillac - Cadillac

Soak up the beautiful scenery as you cruise along the Garonne towards Cadillac. Perhaps enjoy an on-board cooking class in Scenic Culinare before exploring the charming port town of Cadillac whose fortifications date back to the Hundred Years’ War. This evening, local entertainers will perform on the ship. (B,L,D)

Day 6 - Cadillac - Sauternes

Spend your morning exploring the idyllic Sauternes region which is known for its delicious dessert wines. Perhaps cycle through rolling vineyards to Chateau de Myrat to sample grand cru classé wines or visit the Château Guiraud and enjoy a spectacular tasting of its prestigious vintages. Alternatively, enjoy a hike to the intriguing village of Loupiac or visit the historic Château de Roquetaillade with the family that has owned it for centuries. (B,L,D)

Day 7 - Bordeaux

Today you can discover the wonderful Bordeaux region. You will have the chance to take a guided bicycle or vehicle tour to explore the city's bridges, beautiful gardens and remarkable historic sites. Then join a local historian for a private visit to the Musée d’Aquitaine, which traces the tumultuous history of this region from prehistoric times to the modern era. Alternatively, join the chef for a trip to the local market where you will be able to select fresh produce and cook it up during a culinary class on board. This evening, enjoy a delightful night cruise to see the city lit up by light and attend a performance by a classical musician.

Day 8 - Bordeaux - Arcachon - Bourg

Stroll through the pretty town of Arcachon before heading for Arcachon Bay which boasts long sandy beaches, natures reserves and the highest sand dune in Europe. Alternatively, enjoy a bid-watching hike with a local conservationist in the Teich Bird Reserve which houses more than 300 species or simply stay Bordeaux and take the tram to the new Cité du Vin museum. This evening the ship will dock in Bourg overnight. (B,L,D)

Day 9 - Bourg/Cognac - Blaye

Take the opportunity to enjoy a guided tour of Château de la Citadelle in Bourg, including its carriages, museum and guardrooms before visiting the fascinating Grotte de Pair-non-Pair with a site researcher on an excursion specially arranged by National Geographic! The cave was discovered in 1881 and featured thousands of tools, fossils and incredible wall paintings which provide an insight into the life on Earth 60,000 years ago. Alternatively, head out of Bourg and journey to the fortified town of Cognac; a town renowned for its brandy. Enjoy a delightful brandy tasting at the Rémy Martin property. This evening, relax on the sundeck as you cruise into the historic port of Blaye. (B,L,D)

Day 10 - Blaye - Bordeaux

This morning, enjoy a guided tour of Blaye or go for a bicycle ride along the Captain’s Road, named after World War I captains who purchased homes along the waterway. This afternoon, relax on board or join a final cooking class in Scenic Culinaire as you head back to Bordeaux. The Captains farewell dinner will be held tonight. (B,L,D)

Day 11 - Bordeaux - UK

Disembark and transfer to the airport for your journey home. (B)
