Amazon Expedition Cruise Itinerary

Day 1 - Manaus (Brazil)

Board the Motor Yacht Tucano and cruise upstream on the Rio Negro and through the Anavilhanas Archipelago. Observe the vegetation at the water's edge and look out for pink river dolphins and exotic birds. Late afternoon, we hunt for wildlife and there is the opportunity to go for a swim in some of the world's cleanest water. (LD)

Day 2 - Lago Turia

This morning, we should hear and perhaps see howler monkeys and toucans. Enjoy a walk in the forest and return to the motor yacht for lunch. Late afternoon, we explore the forest in our launches. (BLD)

Day 3 - Lago Buriti

This morning, explore the waking forest, before returning to the motor yacht for breakfast followed by either a walk or excursion in the launches. Enjoy an afternoon excursion. (BLD)

Day 4 - Rio Jauaperi

Enjoy two morning excursions before cruising through the forest. We may visit a settler's home carved out of the forest. Early afternoon, we will be near the Rio Jauaperi where you will see a type of forest known as the varzea. Weather permitting, there will be a night excursion to observe nocturnal wildlife. (BLD)

Day 5 - Rio Negro

Depart the Rio Jauaperi and cruise downstream on the Rio Negro. During the day, enjoy launches and walks in the forest and at night, enjoy hunts for nocturnal wildlife. (BLD)

Day 6 - Manuas

The day begins with a dawn excursion hunting for wildlife followed by a full Brazilian breakfast. We then go into the forest last time. Mid-afternoon, the motor yacht will travel to the "Encontra das Arguas", where the world's two largest rivers, the Amazon and the Negro meet in a maelstrom. The dark water of the Negro runs beside the brown water of the Amazon. Tucano then heads upstream anchoring north of the city of Manaus. Enjoy a farewell dinner on board. (BLD)

Day 7 - Manaus

Disembark the motor yacht after breakfast. (B)

Please note the order and specific features of the itinerary may change due to navigational considerations. Good health is necessary. While guests can have an enjoyable trip on board the M/Y Tucano and participating in launch excursions, participants in the walks in the forest must be able to comfortably walk for 2 or more hours at a time. There are several daily excursions off the vessel, and many guests will choose to participate in some but not all of them. The vessel is air-conditioned in the middle of the day and during the night.
