Treasures of Sicily Itinerary

Day 1 - UK - Valletta (Malta)

Fly from the UK to Valletta and embark Le Bougainville.

Day 2 - Porto Empedocle (Sicily)

Porto Empedocle is the gateway to the archaeological site of Temple Valley. This ancient site can be visited on excursions to see the Temple of Juno, Temple of Zeus and Temple of Hercules.

Day 3 - Trapani

The historic centre of Trapani is perfect for a relaxing stroll, with highlights including San Lorenzo Cathedral, Maria Santissima Annunziata sanctuary and the fountain of Triton. Why not take the opportunity to visit the medieval village of Erice or the Doric temple and 3rd-century theatre at Segesta.

Days 4-5 - Palermo

Palermo has a mixed heritage that includes Arab, Christian, Byzantine, Roman, Norman and Italian influences. Perhaps visit Monreale's Cathedral and Benedictine cloister, explore Palermo and the beachfront town of Mondello or explore the picturesque fishing village of Cefalu. Alternatively there is a private evening visit to the Palazzo Gangi where the Princess Vanni Mantegna will greet you.

Day 6 - Taormina

The seaside town of Taormina overlooks Mount Etna and is home to a Roman-style Greek theatre and 15th-century Palazzo Corvaia. There is the chance to ascend to the main crater of Mount Etna by cable car and 4x4 minibus, or explore the volcano on an ATV tour.

Day 7 - Syracuse

Syracuse’s timeless beauty is a delight to behold; a labyrinth of medieval lanes leads to the sparkling blue sea and ancient Greek ruins rise from fragrant lemon orchards. Perhaps join the walking tour of Ragusa to see the medieval buildings and magnificent gardens, see the Sicilian Baroque architecture in Noto or take a step back in time with visits to the Roman Amphitheatre of Augustus, the Greek Theatre and Ortygia Island.

Day 8 - Gozo (Malta) - Valletta

Admire the Baroque churches, medieval buildings and spectacular coastline of Gozo, an island steeped in myth. Why not discover the island's villages on a tour that includes a wine tasting at an idyllic winery, take a boat trip to the tranquil island of Comino for snorkelling and swimming or join the four wheel drive excursion around the island. In the Maltese capital of Valletta there is the opportunity to visit the unique 19th-century Palazzo Parisio, the prehistoric Tarxien temple, the famous Blue Grotto caves or the Archaeological Museum.
