Join your luxury ship in stylish Monte Carlo and cruise to Livorno, your gateway to the Renaissance treasures of Florence and iconic sights of Pisa. Continue to Civitavecchia, from where you can explore ancient Rome, home to the stunning St Peter's Basilica and the beautiful Sistine Chapel.

During your time in Positano, take a cruise along Amalfi's fabled coastline, head to the excavated ruins of Pompeii, or the stunning Emerald Grotto. The next port of call is Taormina where excursions showcase Mt Etna and the beautiful summer resort of Naxos. Malta's capital Valletta is a delight to explore, while Alicante was founded by the Romans as the 'City of Light'.

The Spanish city of Valencia is overlooked by the twin 15th-century Quart Towers, and home to the lively Columbus Market. Learn how to make paella at a local farm, or head to the pretty town of Tabernes Blanques, known as the 'City of Porcelain'. The final stop on this superb cruise is Palma de Mallorca, where excursions include a tour of 14th-century Bellver Castle, a visit to the pearl factory of Montuiri, and a vintage train ride in Soller.

Gems of Italy and Spain Itinerary

Day 1 - Monte Carlo (Monaco)

Embark your ship in glamorous Monte Carlo.

Day 2 - Livorno (Italy)

From Livorno, take the opportunity to visit Florence, renowned for its Renaissance architecture. See Michelangelo's magnificent David, and the Uffizi Gallery. Alternatively, head to Pisa, home to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, or UNESCO-listed Cinque Terre. There is also the opportunity to explore the beautiful Tuscan countryside.

Day 3 - Civitavecchia

Civitavecchia is the gateway to Rome and it many treasures, including the ancient Roman Forum, St Peter's Basilica, and the Sistine Chapel. Take in the sights on a bus tour, or perhaps head to a pioneering eco-friendly vineyard to sample some of the wines. There is also the opportunity to visit to Orvieto in the Umbria region, and the ancient city of Viterbo taking in the 'Thermal Baths of the Popes'.

Day 4 - Positano

Dock in Positano for picturesque Amalfi. Enjoy a walking tour taking in the Cathedral of St Andrew, followed by a cruise along Amalfi's fabled coastline. Alternatively, head to the excavated ruins of Pompeii, the stunning Emerald Grotto, a cavern with vivid green water, or visit Ravello and the spectacular Villa Rufolo.

Day 5 - Taormina

Today, enjoy a scenic drive to Mt Etna followed by a visit to the vineyards of San Michele Estate, join the helicopter tour over Mt Etna, or have a picnic with a local family at their farm. Alternatively, opt for the excursion exploring Naxos, a beautiful summer resort.

Day 6 - Valletta (Malta)

Uncover Malta's many layers, from its prehistoric temples at Tarxien to the colourful fishing village of Marsaxlokk. Head inland to the 'silent city' of Mdina and see the Grand Master's Palace and St John's Cathedral. Alternatively, meet the fisherman at a seaside village and dine on their daily catch, join the guided sightseeing tour of Valletta, or head to Rabat and the Dingli Cliffs.

Day 7 - At sea

Enjoy the facilities on board as you spend a day at sea.

Day 8 - Alicante (Spain)

Alicante on Spain's Costa Blanca has stunning Baroque buildings which surround the central district. Board a trolley train and explore the centre of Alicante, founded by the Romans as the 'City of Light'. Alternatively, learn about the art of cheese-making at a small dairy farm, join a paella workshop, or head to Murcia, capital of the region.

Day 9 - Valencia

Explore this fascinating city which is often known as the 'City of Arts and Science' and boasts an impressive array of attractions. Enjoy a panoramic city tour with highlights including the twin 15th-century Quart Towers and Columbus Market. Alternatively, learn how to make paella at a farm in L'Horta, explore by bike, or head to Tabernes Blanques, known as the 'City of Porcelain'.

Day 10 - Palma de Mallorca

Today, tour 14th-century Bellver Castle before enjoying a drive through Valldermossa, or visit the pearl factory in the pretty village of Montuiri. Alternatively, visit three acclaimed artists in their studios in the village of Valldermossa, sample native wines and Mallorcan cuisine, or drive to Soller for a vintage train ride.

Day 11 - Barcelona

Disembark your ship in Barcelona.
