Majestic Landscapes of Iceland Itinerary
Day 1 - UK - Bergen (Norway)
Fly from the UK to picturesque Bergen, surrounded by soaring mountains, serene fjords and majestic glaciers. Embark your stylish ship, moored next to the UNESCO-listed Bryggen Wharf. This evening, there is the opportunity to dine ashore and mix with the locals.
Day 2 - Bergen
Board a coach for an included tour of Bergen's main sights, including the impressive Rosenkrantz Tower and medieval King Haakon's Hall. Enjoy a photo stop at Nordes for spectacular panoramic views over the harbour, and learn about Bergen's colourful past from the experienced guide. Optional tours available include a visit to the home of Edvard Grieg, Norway's famed composer, experiencing life on a traditional Norwegian farm, and an exploration of tiny Lysoen Island and the beautiful stave church.
Day 3 - Flam
Enjoy a scenic drive to Stegastein Viewpoint between Aurland and Laerdal, where you can enjoy breathtaking views. Later, make your way down the mountain to Aurland. If you don't wish to join the included excursion, there is the option to board the Flam Railway for a ride through majestic scenery, or enjoy a fjord safari followed by a cheese tasting at a goat farm.
Day 4 - Alesund
Arrive in the Art Nouveau town of Alesund which was rebuilt following a fire. An included tour showcases magnificent architecture, inspired by all parts of Europe, and includes a visit to the Sunnmore Open Air Museum. Alternatively, take the opportunity to visit the tranquil islands of Giske and Godoy, admire the thousands of birds nesting on the cliffs of Runde or join an exciting sea safari passing the beautiful Grasoyane Lighthouse.
Day 5 - Geiranger
Cruise Geirangerfjord before arriving in the quaint village of Geiranger. Take in awe-inspiring scenery you ascend Geirangerfjord on a drive, Arrive at Eagle's Bend viewpoint passing through 11 thrilling hairpin turns. At the end of the road, you'll be able to take in the vistas of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today's optional excursions include a visit to a traditional Norwegian farm to see how goat cheeses are made, and a kayaking trip through the tranquil waters of Geirangerfjord.
Day 6 - At sea
Enjoy the facilities on board as you spend a day at sea.
Day 7 - Torshavn (Faroe Islands)
Discover Viking heritage as you explore the remote Faroe archipelago. Admire the magnificent Viking Parliament on Torshavn harbour, then travel along the ridgetop road which takes in the southern part of Streymoy Island, stopping for photos. Other highlights include picturesque Nororadalur and tranquil Lake Leynar. If you don't wish to join the included tour, there are optional excursions available. Perhaps discover the rugged island of Eysturoy and board a boat for a thrilling sea safari.
Day 8 - At sea
Enjoy the facilities on board Viking Sky during a day at sea.
Day 9 - Seydisfjordur (Iceland)
Today you are free to explore quaint Seydisfjordur at leisure. There is a thriving arts scene and a variety of hiking trails, plus an impressive Blue Church. Perhaps learn about this beautiful town area at the Technical Museum of East Iceland. Alternatively, join an optional tour, including a visit to the Fardagafoss waterfalls and the Icelandic Wartime Museum. There is also the option visit the Skalanes Nature and Heritage Centre which is home to over 40 species of birds.
Day 10 - Akureyri
Akureyri is the second largest city in Iceland and is known as the Capital of the North. An included tour takes in the spectacular Akureyri Church with its stunning stained-glass window, and Akureyri's Public Park and Botanic Garden. Alternatively, opt for a coach tour to Godafoss Waterfall, nicknamed the Waterfall of the Gods or relax in the tranquil geothermal waters of Myvatn Nature Baths.
Day 11 - Isafjordur
Isafjordur is is located on the breathtaking Westfjords peninsula. Enjoy a scenic drive and a visit to the fascinating Osvor Maritime Museum, before continuing to the pretty village of Bolungarvik on an included excursion. If you don't wish to join the included tour, there is an optional excursion to Vigur Island, home to a variety of birdlife, and a visit to the fishing village of Sudavik which takes in the Arctic Fox Centre.
Day 12 - Reykjavik
Arrive in the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik. See the sights on an included tour, from the striking white Hallgrimskirkja church to the magnificent Hofoi House. Alternatively, enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime whale watching excursion, relax in the famous Blue Lagoon or board a super truck for a ride to the UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park.
Day 13 - Reykjavik - UK
Disembark and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
