Circumnavigating Iceland Itinerary (7 Aug 2022, 8 & 18 May 2023)
Day 1 - Reykjavik (Iceland)
Embark your expedition ship in the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik.
Day 2 - Stykkisholmur
Spend a full day in the beautiful town of Stykkisholmur with its well-preserved old houses. Perhaps visit some of the interesting museums or head out on optional excursions showcasing the Snafellsnes Peninsula, including the Londrangar basalt cliffs and blank sandy beaches of Djupalonssandur.
Day 3 - Patreksfjordur
Enjoy a full day in Patreksjordur, a beautiful settlement on the west coast of Iceland, home to around 660 people. The stunning fjord offers breathtaking hiking trails. Patreksfjordur is also near to the magnificent waterfall of Dynjandi and Latrabjarg, renowned for birdwatching.
Day 4 - Northwest Iceland
The Captain will plan a day discovering the breathtaking fjords of northwest Iceland. Conditions will determine the activities for the day, including hikes and outings in kayaks.
Day 5 - Djupavik
In 1917, Elias Stefansson moved to Djupavik and built a herring salting factory. See the remains of the factory as well as the seven houses and hotel which can also be found here. You'll get to explore the landing site and surrounding scenery.
Day 6 - Akureyri
The lively town of Akureyri is renowned for its botanical gardens. It a bustling centre of trade, culture and services serving the north of Iceland. It is near to some of Iceland's most breathtaking natural wonders, including Lake Myvatn and Godafoss waterfall.
Day 7 - Grimsey Island - Husavik
You'll use tender boats to reach the pretty island of Grimsey. It is best known for its proximity to the Arctic Circle which cuts across the island. You'll have the chance to step across the line. This afternoon, cruise towards Husavik, arriving this evening.
Day 8 - Husavik - Langanes Peninsula
Husavik is a great place for whale watching and is home to several fascinating museums, including a Whale Museum. This evening, we cruise past the stunning Laganes Peninsula.
Day 10 - Heimaey
Heimaey's narrow harbour entrance was caused by a volcanic eruption. The island's steep cliffs provide a habitat for numerous birds, including the puffin.
Day 11 - Reykjavik
Disembark your ship in Reykjavik.
