About Iceland Cruises

Highlights of cruises to Iceland include the cosmopolitan capital of Reykjavik, home to a cutting-edge art scene, lively nightlife and of course the world-famous Blue Lagoon. The small volcanic island of Heimaey in the remote Westmann archipelago is known as the ‘Pompeii of the north’ due to its volcanic activity and Akureyri’s magnificent green pastures, waterfalls and whale-filled bays are the starting point for excursions to the Godafoss waterfall, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland.

From the small town of Isafjordur perhaps explore the fascinating natural history museum then stop by the magnificent Dynjandi Waterfalls or visit the unique Sea Monster Museum in Bildudadur. The Golden Circle is a popular route in South Iceland and takes in the dramatic landscapes of Thingvellir National Park, the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall and the Strokkur geyser which erupts dramatically every few minutes.

Wildlife in Iceland is rich with birdlife making it popular with ornithologists who visit to see dozens of thrilling species of bird during the summer nesting season, including puffins, skuas and kittiwakes. Icelandic waters are rich with marine life, and the summer months are the perfect time to sight humpback whales, orcas and dolphins..

Many cruise lines now offer cruises to Iceland, with some cruising from the UK, and others including Greenland and even Canada on their cruises. Expedition cruises to Iceland offer fascinating lectures on board as well as using Zodiac boats to reach remote islands such as Grimsey, where the Arctic Circle meets Iceland, and Latrabjarg, a promontory on Flatey Island and home to millions of birds from guillemots to puffins and northern gannets.
