A two-night hotel stay in Athens allows plenty of time to experience the capital’s many wonders, including the world-famous Acropolis, site of the Parthenon. Enjoy a sightseeing drive to the monastery of Osios Loukas, followed by the shrine of Apollo on the slopes of Mount Parnassus. Explore the ancient city of Mycenae, visit the Greek amphitheatre of Epidaurus and see the extraordinary Corinth Canal.

Step ashore on the sacred island of Delos, birthplace of Achilles, before relaxing on the waterfront in beautiful Mykonos. In Crete learn more about the legendary Minotaur’s Labyrinth, hidden beneath the Palace of Knossos, and visit the Acropolis of Lindos in Rhodes, or the wonders of the island’s capital. Classical Greece and Aegean Islands Itinerary

Day 1 - UK - Athens (Greece)

Fly from the UK to Athens for a 2-night hotel stay.

Day 2 - Athens

Enjoy a tour to the Acropolis with its sweeping views of Athens and visit the wonderful Acropolis Museum where glass floors allow an extraordinary perspective of the excavations of layers of Greek history that lie below. Alternatively uncover the splendour of Byzantine art with a visit to the Byzantine Museum and the Monastery of Kaisariani.

Day 3 - Delphi

Enjoy a morning sightseeing drive to Osios Loukas en route to Delphi for afternoon sightseeing and overnight hotel stay. This spectacular site offers sacred treasures including the theatres, the Grand Temple of Apollo and the place of offerings, as well as breathtaking views down to the Gulf of Corinth.

Day 4 - Nauplia

Drive to Mycenae for sightseeing and learn about the tales of Agamemnon and Homer's heroes. Travel to Nauplia for an overnight hotel stay and to explore this ancient port town's authentic atmosphere, cobbled alleyways and local taverns.

Day 5 - Piraeus

Visit the vast World-Heritage Site of Epidaurus with its ancient temples, hospital buildings and impressive theatre. Later, travel to Piraeus where you will board Aegean Odyssey.

Day 6 - Delos - Mykonos

Discover the sacred island of Delos, reputed to be the birthplace of the god Apollo, which was once the religious centre of the Cyclades. This afternoon there is time to explore Mykonos at leisure.

Day 7 - Heraklion

See the magnificent palace complex of the Palace of Knossos and hear tales of the legendary Minotaur before returning to Heraklion to visit the town's Archaeological Museum, the best museum in the world for Minoan art. Alternatively there is an optional excursion to the traditional village of Archanes, stopping at the picturesque village of Vathipethro which is renowned for its natural beauty.

Day 8 - Agios Nikolaos

This tranquil resort has several lovely beaches and nearby is the Minoan archaeological site of Gournia.

Day 9 - Karpathos

Tour the traditional villages of Karpathos including the old capital of Aperi, Othos with its striking sea views and Pyles with its open-air agricultural museum. There is an optional full day tour to the remote village of Olympos where a guided tour features a trip to see a traditional house and museum and the Byzantine church.

Day 10 - Nisyros

See the unique flora and fauna that thrives in the volcanic soil of Nisyros. See the bubbling fumaroles in the island's largest crater, visit the authentic village of Nikia which perches right on the lip of the caldera and stop at an abandoned natural spa.

Day 11 - Rhodes

Travel to Lindos where the Acropolis clings to the rocks, and explore the village's whitewashed houses and shops. Alternatively there is a tour of the restored 14th-century Grand Master's Palace in Rhodes.

Day 12 - Santorini

Stroll through the beautiful village of Oia with its narrow cobblestone streets and delightful pastel-coloured buildings, then enjoy wine-tasting and a traditional Greek lunch at the family-run Argyros wine estate. An alternative excursion explores the Minoan settlement of Akrotiri, the breathtaking village of Oia, tiny Pyrgos and the scenic capital of Fira.

Day 13 - Athens - UK

Disembark Aegean Odyssey and transfer to the airport for the return flight to the UK.
