Ecuador’s pristine Galápagos Islands are home to wildlife found nowhere else on earth. The extreme isolation of the islands led to the development of unusual species including the giant tortoise, land iguanas, blue-footed boobies and finches, which inspired Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution.

Embark your ship on Baltra Island and cruise to the islands of Daphne and Espanola, home to sea turtles, sea lions, pelicans and the waved albatross. See the famous post office barrel on Floreana Island where whalers left their mail to be picked up by outbound ships. There may be the chance to spot huge marine iguanas and Galapagos Penguins, and there is the opportunity to visit a giant tortoise reserve.

Experienced naturalist guides accompany every sailing and share their knowledge of these unspoiled islands. Enjoy up close encounters on zodiac trips and guided hikes ashore and learn about the wildlife and geology of the archipelago with onboard lectures.

Outer Loop Itinerary

Day 1 - Baltra Island (Galapagos Islands) - Daphne Island

During World War II, Baltra served as a U.S. military base protecting the Panama Canal from enemy attack. Now the cactus-strewn landscapes of Baltra are home to the region’s main airport and where you will embark brand new ship Celebrity Flora. This afternoon, cruise to Daphne, a satellite volcanic cone located north of Santa Cruz Island. The crater floor is an important breeding site for blue-footed boobies. This Island is famous for the scientific investigation led by Peter and Rosemary Grant on the finches’ population, one of the most important studies on the field that supports Charles Darwin’s Theory. The cliff shore of the island is home for sea lions, pelicans, blue-footed boobies, and tropical birds which can be observed during the circumnavigation of the island.

Day 2 - Espanola Island

Arrive at Gardner Bay. A long white sand beach and clear blue waters make this an ideal spot for swimming, snorkeling, or just relaxing on the beach. In the water, sea turtles, rays, colorful tropical fish, and maybe even a white-tip reef shark may be seen. It is also home to a colony of sea lions. Excursion options: beach walking, swimming, or a deep-water snorkel for experienced snorkelers. Later, cruise to Suarez Point. At this site, visitors can expect to see sea lions, Galapagos Hawks, marine iguanas, and both blue-footed and Nazca boobies. Between late March and the following January, the Waved Albatrosses come here to mate and raise their young. Excursion options include a long, rocky walk to look for albatrosses and observe an impressive blowhole that spews water like a towering geyser.

Day 3 - Floreana Island

Floreana was the first capital of the Galapagos, and where Charles Darwin met the islands’ Governor. Its small brackish lagoon is often home to flamingos, stilts, and white-cheeked pintail ducks, and one of its beaches is a highly used nesting site for sea turtles. Excursion options include a relatively short walk to the lagoon and sea turtle nesting beach, and optional snorkeling and swimming at the landing beach. In addition, nearby Champion Island lies east of Floreana and provides a wonderful opportunity for snorkeling and a zodiac ride. Later, explore Post Office Bay. This site is home to the post office barrel established in about 1793, where pirates, buccaneers, whalers and others could leave their mail to be picked up by outbound ships. The tradition continues today, as visitors leave addressed postcards in the barrel and sort through left mail to deliver at home. You will also visit Baroness Outlook, the perfect place to view the scenery of Floreana Island.

Day 4 - Isabela Island

Along the beautiful rocky shore of Moreno Point, a field of hardened black lava flows is pockmarked by shallow pools, which are home to shorebirds and flamingos. The mangrove-lined shore also provides a chance to see marine iguanas, sea turtles, stingrays, sharks, penguins, and the flightless cormorant. Excursion options: a long walk and Zodiac ride, or an extended Zodiac ride. Continue to Urvina Bay where we will see large land iguanas, finches, and if lucky, a giant tortoise or two. In 1954, the intrusion of magma below one of the islands volcanoes caused part of the bay to be uplifted some 6 meters, and today we can walk through the remains of what was once a thriving underwater reef. Excursion options: a long, faster-paced hike with some rock climbing required, followed by an optional snorkel (if conditions allow), or a short walk and optional snorkel.

Day 5 - Fernandina Island - Isabela Island

Fernandina is the youngest island in the Galapagos and, as Darwin wrote, it is “covered with immense deluges of black naked lava.” Along with its extraordinary black lava rocks, this point of land hosts the largest colony of marine iguanas in the Archipelago, along with sea lions and a nesting site for flightless cormorants. Excursion options: a long walk or short walk, as well as a deep-water snorkel for experienced snorkelers. Later, cruise to Vicente Roca Point on Isabela Island. The half-collapsed remains of an ancient volcano make for a spectacular setting at this site. Awe-inspiring cliffs, blue waters, and wildlife create a Zodiac ride to remember as we search for sea turtles, penguins, fur seals, the flightless cormorant, marine iguanas, marine mammals, and the oddly shaped form of the elusive sunfish.

Days 6-7 - Santa Cruz Island

One of two islands off Santa Cruz, South Plaza was born of upheaval, uplifted during a geologic event. The rocky island is strewn with prickly pear cactus and home to land iguanas, marine iguanas, and a colony of sea lions. Our excursion here is a short walk to view wildlife, FloraSM, and geology. Dragon Hill, or “Cerro Dragon,” is named after its population of land iguanas. The site offers a beautiful view of the landscape and two small brackish lagoons where flamingos and other shore birds occasionally feed. Along the trail, we’ll cross a beautiful “white forest” of Palo Santo (incense) trees and Galapagos cotton plants. Options for this visit include a long walk and a short walk. The following day, explore Puerto Ayora. This is the main population center of the islands, and home to the National Park Service tortoise-breeding center and the Charles Darwin Research Station. You will be able to visit the tortoise-breeding center and walk through the Charles Darwin Research Station. You will also have the opportunity to take a bus ride to the highlands to observe giant tortoises in the wild and walk through a lava tunnel. In addition, you will have an exclusive opportunity to participate in the Scalesia reforestation project in the highlands of Santa Cruz Island.

Day 8 - Baltra Island

With its sandy beach and black – rock, blue-water grottos, this stop offers a taste of the Galapagos geology, some great snorkeling, and an opportunity to see shore birds and Galapagos fur seals. Excursion options: long walk along the shore to the grottos to see fur seals, followed by optional swimming and snorkeling or a shorter coastal walk. Later, cruise to Rabida Island. A small island south of Santiago, Rabida is best known for its red sand and eroded volcanic landscape. A nesting colony of pelicans makes its home here, along with sea lions and some sea birds. Excursion options: Zodiac ride, short walk, swimming, and snorkeling from the beach.

Day 3 - Isabela Island

Elizabeth Bay is one of the western-most points in the Galapagos. A scenic Zodiac ride along this sheltered inlet offers viewing of a wide variety of wildlife and a wonderful mangrove ecosystem. Historically an anchorage for pirates and whalers, this site offers a breathtaking view of Isabela, its volcanoes, and a saltwater lagoon. Along the shore, seabirds, penguins, sea lions, sea turtles, and nesting flightless cormorants can often be found. Excursion options: a scenic Zodiac ride for wildlife viewing, a long, faster-paced walk, and optional snorkeling.

Day 4 - Santiago Island - Bartolome Island

During a volcanic eruption in the early 1900’s, this area of Santiago was covered with flowing lava. Today, the hardened fields of black rock create a geologic wonderland. We will take advantage of the cool of the early morning for a walk at this amazing site. Continue to Bartolome Island which hosts one of the region’s most often photographed views, and a spectacular geologic setting. Its barren moon-like volcanic landscapes, spatter cones, and pinnacle rock make for a unique stop. It is also home to the endemic Galapagos penguin and provides an excellent opportunity for snorkeling. Excursion options: hike up some 368 stairs “To the Top” of the volcano, a Zodiac ride, and an optional beach swim or snorkel.

Day 5 - Santa Cruz Island - North Seymour Island

Excursion options: short beach walk to look for flamingos, followed by an optional opportunity to swim, snorkel, or just relax on the shore. It is also possible to simply go to the beach to swim, snorkel, and relax. Deep water snorkel for experienced snorkelers. This afternoon, continue to North Seymour Island. North Seymour is a small island just north of Baltra. It is home to the largest colony of frigate birds in the Galapagos. While keeping an eye out for male frigates trying to impress potential mates with an inflated red neck pouch, you may also see blue-footed boobies dancing in a timeless courtship ritual. Sea lions and large land iguanas also roam about this rocky terrain. Excursion options: a guided, long rocky walk, Zodiac ride and short easy walk, or simply a scenic Zodiac tour along the coast to view wildlife and the geology of the area. Experienced snorkelers will also have an option to do a deep water snorkel at this site.

Day 6 - San Cristobal Island

Here we have the opportunity to visit the small waterfront town of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, the administrative capital of the islands. Excursion options: a tour of a local interpretation center and time for shopping or a fast-paced long walk to view scenic vistas, followed by a visit to the interpretation center. Later, head to Punta Pitt. Our visit to this location, thought by many to be the most spectacular site in San Cristobal, allows us the rare opportunity to visit the only location in Galapagos where you can observe all three species of boobies, Blue, Red and Masked, and two species of frigates birds nesting in the same area. In addition, there is an opportunity to explore its volcanic terrain as well as beach swimming.

Day 7 - Santa Cruz Island
