Discover an abundance of wildlife in stunning national parks, meet local communities and step ashore on idyllic islands on this exciting luxury expedition voyage to the natural wonders of Central America, accompanied by a National Geographic Photographer and an expert.

Join your ship in Puerto Quetzal and set sail to the Nicoya Peninsula and the tiny Curu Wildlife Refuge, Costa Rica's oldest protected park. After a short Zodiac ride, take a stroll along the paths which criss-cross the tropical forest, keeping an eye out for monkeys, iguanas and several species of birds. Toruga Island, nestled to the far south of the Nicoya Peninsula, is the next port of call. Discover the tranquil villages and pristine beaches overlooked by palm trees, as well as the wild fauna.

Travel by Zodiac to the beaches of Manuel Antonio National Park, one of the jewels in Costa Rica's crown. You may be lucky enough to see sloths, howler monkeys and white-faced capuchins during your time here. Continue to Cocos Island with its stunning cascading waterfalls. Its azure waters are teeming with turtles, manta rays and whale sharks.

Covered by tropical rainforest and fringed by white sandy beaches, Cebaco Island is paradise. It is home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna, and its colourful coral reefs are a haven for an array of marine life. Cruise around Pacheca Island, one of the Pearl Islands, and on to UNESCO-listed Darrien National Park. Meet the local Emberas in the coastal village of Playa Muerto, before heading to Utria National Park, comprising of dense rainforest and mangroves.

National Parks of Central America National Geographic Itinerary

Day 1 - Puerto Quetzal (Guatemala)

Embark your ship in Puerto Quetzal.

Day 2 - At sea

Enjoy the ship's facilities during a relaxing day at sea.

Day 3 - Curu Wildlife Refuge (Costa Rica) - Tortuga Island

On the southern part of the Nicoya Peninsula is the tiny Curu Wildlife Refuge, the oldest protected park in Costa Rica. It is a prime example of ecotourism as well as a research centre for scientists from around the world. After a short Zodiac ride, take a stroll along the paths that criss-cross the forest keeping an eye out for monkeys and iguanas. Continue to Tortuga Island at the far south of the Nicoya Peninsula. It is home to tranquil villages and pristine beaches overlooked by palm trees.

Day 4 - Manuel Antonio National Park

Arrive by Zodiac on the beaches of Manuel Antonio National Park, one of the jewels in Costa Rica's crown. You may be lucky enough to see sloths, howler monkeys and white-faced capuchins.

Day 6 - Cocos Island

Cocos Island has an incredible ecosystem comprising of tropical rainforest, waterfalls and azure waters which are home to turtles, manta rays and whale sharks. It is known as 'Treasure Island' as it was once a favourite place for pirates to hide their booty.

Day 7 - At sea

Enjoy the ship's facilities during a relaxing day at sea.

Day 8 - Cebaco Island (Panama)

Cebaco Island at the entrance to the Gulf of Montijo is truly paradise. It is covered in tropical rainforest and fringed by white sandy beaches. Its coral reefs lie in the outskirts of Coiba National Park and are teeming with marine life.

Day 9 - Pacheca Island - Fuerte Amador

Cruise around Pacheca, one of the Pearl Islands. The onboard naturalists will be on deck to help you recognise the various species of birds which inhabit the island. Continue to Fuerte Amador at the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal. It is the gateway to the Miraflores Locks and the villages further north, home to the Embera tribes who have preserved their traditions and ancestral way of life. A visit to the Miraflores Locks is included, as is a visit to the Bio Diversity Museum.

Day 10 - Darrien National Park - Jacque

UNESCO-listed Darrien National Park is home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna. Head to Playa Muerto, a small village home to the Emberas Amerindian community. Enjoy traditional songs and dance by the locals and admire their beautiful crafts. Later, continue to Jacque.

Day 11 - Utria National Natural Park (Colombia)

The dense rainforests and mangroves of Utria National Natural Park are home to an array of flora and fauna. Take a stroll along the elevated boardwalk during your time here. You may be lucky enough to spot humpback whales off the coast.

Days 12-13 - At sea

Enjoy the ship's facilities during relaxings day at sea.

Day 14 - Guayaquil (Ecuador)

Disembark your ship in Guayaquil.

For navigational reasons, the Captain reserves the right to amend the cruise itinerary.
