From picturesque Puerto Rico, you'll set sail for South America and the idyllic islands of the Caribbean on this unique voyage.

An overnight stop in San Juan gives ample time to see the sights. A guided tour showcases the treasures of Old San Juan including the beautiful Raices Fountain and majestic cathedral of San Juan Bautista. Viking Sea then cruises to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, one of the Caribbean's most historic capitals and home to the UNESCO-listed Zona Colonial.

Admire the ornate colonial architecture of Cartagena on a guided walking tour or opt for a horse-drawn carriage tour of the Old Town, before continuing to Santa Marta, Colombia's oldest surviving city. Learn about Aruba's gold rush heyday on a visit to the Bushiribana Gold Mill Ruins, experience the lively Papiamento Creole culture of Willemstad, and discover the impressive Fairview Great House and Botanical Garden on the island of St Kitts, Britain's first Caribbean settlement.

South America and the Caribbean Itinerary

Day 1 - UK - San Juan (Puerto Rico)

Fly from the UK to San Juan and transfer to the port to embark Viking Sea. An overnight stay in port gives ample time to discover Old San Juan with its colonial charm. Perhaps take an evening stroll along the byways or learn more about Barcardi Rum on an optional tour of Casa Barcardi.

Day 2 - San Juan

San Juan is a delight to explore with its stunning Condado district and impressive 16th-century Fort San Felipe del Morro which guards the entrance to San Juan Bay. An included walking tour showcases the main sights of Old San Juan including the beautiful Raices Fountain, the Ballaja Barracks and the ornate cathedral of San Juan Bautista. There are fascinating optional excursions available, including a driving tour in the heart of El Yunque Rainforest and a kayaking adventure.

Day 3 - Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic)

Santo Domingo was founded in 1496 by Bartholomew and is one of the most historic capitals in the Caribbean. Explore the heart of the UNESCO-listed Zona Colonial on an included walking tour, with visits to St Mary of the Incarnation and Calle de las Damas. Alternatively, enjoy a chocolate experience at La Esmeralda Chocolate Factory.

Day 4 - At sea

Perhaps pamper yourself in The Salon or enjoy a film in The Theatre as you spend a couple of days at sea.

Day 5 - Cartagena (Colombia)

Arrive in the beautiful port of Cartagena with its impressive colonial architecture. Stroll along the colourful streets of the Old Town past colonial-era buildings and on to the 17th-century Santa Clara Convent on a fascinating walking tour. Optional excursions include a horse-drawn carriage tour of the Old Town and a visit to the National Aviary, home to an array of birdlife.

Day 6 - Santa Marta

Remains of the Tairona culture can be seen in picturesque Santa Marta, Colombia's oldest surviving city. Today's included excursion is a guided walking tour taking in the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Marta and the Spanish colonial City Hall. Alternatively, perhaps explore the Tayrona National Park or meet the indigenous tribes in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

Day 7 - Oranjestad (Aruba)

Oranjestad is the colourful capital of Aruba, a stunning Dutch island. The city rapidly developed around Fort Zoutman and attracted people in search of gold. An included scenic drive takes in the impressive Natural Bridge and the Bushiribana Gold Mill Ruins where you'll learn about Aruba's gold rush boom. Today's optional excursions include a visit to a butterfly and ostrich farm, a yacht cruise with two snorkelling stops, and a catamaran cruise at sunset.

Day 8 - Willemstad (Curacao)

Lively Willemstad has a unique mix of Spanish and Dutch colonial architecture. Enjoy a tour of the brightly coloured, UNESCO-listed Old Town and experience the Papiamento Creole culture. Continue to Fort Amsterdam to see the impressive Governor's Palace and the beautiful Mikve Israel-Emanuel Synagogue. A fascinating visit to the Maritime Museum concludes this interesting included excursion. Alternatively, opt for the gastronomic walking tour or head to the 200,000-year old Catu Caves.

Day 9 - At sea

Enjoy the facilities on board during a day at sea.

Day 10 - St Kitts (Basseterre)

St Kitts was Britain's first Caribbean settlement which grew into a thriving powerhouse, with nearly 70 sugar plantations in operation. Admire ornate Victorian and Georgian architecture and iconic sights including the Berkeley Memorial Clock, before heading to the beautiful Fairview Great House and Botanical Garden on an included guided tour. Optional excursions include a drive around St Kitts, a ride on the historic St Kitt's railway and kayaking along the beautiful southeast coast.

Day 11 - San Juan (Puerto Rico) - UK

Disembark Viking Sea and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.

Day 12 - UK

Arrive back in the UK.
