Leeward Islands and Barbados Itinerary

Day 1 - St Maarten (Dutch West Indies)

Embark Variety Voyager in St Maarten.

Day 2 - Anguilla (British Windward Islands) - Gustavia (St Barts)

Anguilla is the quintessential Caribbean island, with white sandy beaches, swaying palm trees and colourful beach bars serving rum cocktails. The crystal-clear waters are perfect for the ship's watersports activities. For a fascinating insight into the island's quirky history the Heritage Collection Museum is an interesting place to visit. Enjoy a barbecue on deck whilst sailing towards St Barts, where the pretty capital of Gustavia has upmarket boutiques and good French restaurants. There is an optional hike along the Colombier Beach Trail to look for nesting red-billed tropicbirds.

Day 3 - St Kitts - Nevis (St Kitts and Nevis)

St Kitts is an island of rolling hills and lush rainforest vegetation. The Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park is one of the Caribbean's best historic sights and the island's capital, Basseterre, has a superb historic district with colonial and Creole influences. The town can be explored on an optional morning tour. Enjoy a barbecue on deck whilst sailing towards Nevis for swimming and beach activities.

Day 4 - Montserrat

Dominated by the active Soufriere Volcano, Montserrat is perfect for birdwatching, snorkelling, diving or just enjoying the island's unhurried pace of life. The island is known as the Caribbean's Emerald Isle due to its Irish heritage and lush rainforest which contrasts with the black beaches which are made from tiny pieces of lava. There is an optional excursion to the Montserrat Volcano Observatory for amazing views of the volcano and the surrounding area.

Day 5 - Iles des Saintes (Guadeloupe)

Iles de Saintes consist of eight tiny islands, and are amongst Guadeloupe's least visited places. There are superb beaches as well as first-class diving and the long history dates back centuries to when the islands were used by pirates and buccaneers. Stroll through the colonial town of Terre-de-Haut and swim and snorkel from a nearby beach.

Day 6 - Dominica

Dominica is perfect for nature lovers, with a rainforest-covered volcano, sulfurous hot springs and cascading waterfalls. There is an optional trip to the ruins of Fort Shirley and The Valley of Desolation in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Morne Trois Pitons National Park. This afternoon there is the chance for a refreshing swim before setting sail for Bequia.

Day 7 - Bequia (St Vincent and Grenadine Islands)

Bequia is the largest of the Grenadines, with tranquil lagoons, colourful reefs, sublime beaches and a long maritime history. There is a swim stop and barbecue followed by an optional afternoon tour. In Bequia's colourful capital, Port Elizabeth, there is the chance to shop for local crafts in colourful markets.
