Oceania Insignia Review

Fri 1 Sep 2017

Our Cruising Specialist, Sam, travelled up to the port of Civitavecchia, Rome to see the newly refurbished Oceania Insignia. Read her exclusive review:

So the introduction to the world of Oceania started by embarking on their visually stunning ship Insignia. I was pleased to be invited by Oceania to join them on a short taster cruise departing from Civitavecchia near Rome and finishing a couple of days later in Barcelona.

I had arrived at the port before the recommended embarkation time so wasn’t too sure that I would be able to get on the ship before the allocated time. I had no need to worry though as the guest registration procedure took place on the quayside, my luggage was labelled and taken directly to my cabin, and I was shown onboard and told to enjoy a buffet lunch in the Terrace Café or relax in Waves Grill. The smell of gourmet burgers being freshly grilled tempted me into Waves Grill which is such a lovely laid-back dining area overlooking the swimming pool. Burger ordered and glass of wine in hand I was perfectly happy to sit here and relax for a while until my cabin was ready.

I checked into my B1-veranda stateroom which was nice and centrally located on deck. The cabin was comfortable and had all the amenities I needed; large wardrobe with plenty of hangers, complimentary bathrobe and slippers, safety deposit box which was easy to access and use and a minibar.

The main restaurant is the Grand Dining room and quite aptly named. Dining in the Polo Grill was by far my favourite – Filet Mignon with a side order of Lobster Mac & Cheese was THE best I’ve ever tasted, I’d even go as far as to say I’d book my next cruise just to have more of this delicious food.

I also ate in the Italian inspired Toscana and enjoyed an after dinner coffee or two in Baristas – all free to guests with non cover charge.

Unfortunately my cruise was too short really to experience all that Oceania Insignia had to offer. I didn’t get chance to have a flutter in the casino, or take part in the Artists Loft enrichment centre. But I did enjoy the entertainment in the theatre and I chilled out for an afternoon in the oh so delightful Canyon Ranch SpaClub.

So overall a really amazing few days which I could easily have stretched out given the opportunity. If you want a touch of luxury in beautiful elegant surroundings, if you want to made to feel really special and if you enjoy the finer things in life then Oceania is most definitely for you.
