The Kimberley Coast Itinerary

Day 1 - UK - Darwin (Australia)

Overnight flight from the UK to Darwin.

Day 2 - 3 - Darwin

Check in to your hotel in Darwin for a 2-night stay. Darwin is the largest city in the Northern Territory and full of colonial treasures including the stunning Christ Church Cathedral, Government House and the Old Admiralty House.

Day 4 - Darwin - Joseph Bonaparte Gulf

Check out of your hotel and transfer to the ship before spending a relaxing day cruising across Joseph Bonaparte Gulf into Western Australian waters. Join the Expedition Team in the Lounge for a fascinating introduction to the Kimberley then meet your fellow travellers, the Captain and crew for the Captain’s Welcome Drinks.

Day 5 - King George River and Falls

Cruise through steep-sided gorges to the 80m-tall King George Falls, the highest twin falls in Western Australia, where they plunge over a sandstone cliff.

Day 6 - Vansittart Bay

Vansittart Bay is home to the Gwion Gwion Aboriginal rock art galleries that are thought to be up to 20,000 years old. Nearby, on Vansittart Bay's vast salt flats lies the wreckage of a US Air Force C-53 which crashed during World War II

Day 7 - Mitchell Falls - Winyalkan - Swift Bay

The photogenic Mitchell Falls are a series of waterfalls that tumble down into emerald green pools. There is an optional helicopter flight to the falls to see them from above. Alternatively, explore the sandstone caves of Hathway's Hideaway or discover Wandjina and Gwion Gwion rock art galleries at Swift Bay. This evening watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean while enjoying a gourmet BBQ.

Day 8 - Prince Frederik Harbour

Prince Frederick Harbour is dotted with islands set against a backdrop of towering red cliffs and mangroves. Travel by Xplorer tender vessels up Porosus Creek to see some impressive rock formations.

Day 9 - Prince Regent River - Careening Bay

Cruise in Xplorer tender vessels down the Prince Regent River to the beautiful terraced waterfall at King Cascade. See the inscription carved into the Mermaid Boab Tree 200 years ago at Careening Bay.

Day 10 - Montgomery Reef

Get up close in Xplorer and Zodiac inflatable tenders to watch Montgomery Reef rise out of the ocean as tidal waters cascade into surrounding channels creating a swirl of eddies and whirlpools.

Day 11 - Doubtful Bay

Today there may be the chance to visit ancient Wandjina rock art galleries in Doubtful Bay, the traditional country of the Worrora people. Other places visited may include the impressive Ruby Falls, the mighty Sale river and Steep Island.

Day 12 - Horizontal Falls - Buccaneer Archipelago

The Horizontal Falls are one of the Kimberley’s biggest attractions and are a result of mammoth 11m tides, where water is forcibly pushed through a narrow gorge, creating a rushing horizontal waterfall of swiftly flowing seawater. Riding the rapids on our Zodiac inflatable tenders is one of the highlights of our Kimberley expedition cruises. At Cyclone Creek there are impressive rock formations to discover, then cruise through the Iron Islands, past Koolan Island to Nares Point for sunset drinks.

Day 13 - The Lacepede Islands

The Lacepede Islands are a protected nature reserve and an important seabird nesting rookery for brown boobies and roseate terns. Other species sighted at the Lacepedes include Australian Pelicans, frigate birds, egrets, gulls and green turtles. Weather and tide conditions permitting, explore the lagoons by Xplorer and Zodiac tender vessels. This evening enjoy Captain’s farewell drinks.

Day 14 - Broome - UK

Disembark ship in Broome and transfer to the airport for the return flight to the UK.

Day 15 - Arrive UK
