Komodo and the Australian Coast Itinerary

Days 1-2 - UK - Bali (Indonesia)

Fly from the UK and embark Viking Orion in Bali.

Day 3 - Lombok

From the port of Lembar on Lombok journey to Senggigi at the foot of Mt. Rinjani to spend the day relaxing on the island’s superb white-sand beaches.Optional excursions include a visit to Lombok's renowned craft villages, a tour of Lombok's lively capital Mataram and a tour of Sekotang village followed by a visit to Cocotinos Beach.

Day 4 - Komodo

Visit Komodo National Park and the Tamarind Woods to go in search of the legendary Komodo dragon, the largest lizard in the world. Along the way, magnificent wildlife that you might see include Timor deer, wild horses, giant fruit bats and wild boar. An optional excursion to the romantic Pink Beach in Komodo National Park gives the opportunity to swim, snorkel and relax on one of only seven pink beaches in the world.

Day 5 - At sea

Days 6-7 - Darwin (Australia)

Enjoy a panoramic city tour of Darwin, past the stunning Christ Church Cathedral, Government House and the Old Admiralty House then head to the East Point lookout for sweeping views of Australia’s beautiful Top End and Darwin Harbour. Alternatively, travel along the Adelaide River to view Australia’s famous jumping crocodiles, learn more about the area’s military past at the Darwin Military Museum and Australian Aviation Heritage Center, or join an eco-cruise into Darwin’s harbour and mangrove waterways.

Day 9 - Thursday Island

Explore picturesque Thursday Island at your leisure today. Highlights include the 19th-century Green Hill Fort and its cannons which once guarded the island's main approaches, and the Gab Titui Cultural Centre which houses historical artefacts and contemporary Indigenous art. You'll enjoy a traditional welcome ceremony and dance performance.

Day 11 - Cairns

Take in the major sights of Cairns on a panoramic city tour, featuring the domed Casino, historic Royal Australian Navy base, Cairns Botanic Gardens and the quaint beach community of Palm Cove. Alternatively, sail to the Great Barrier Reef on board a catamaran or take a trip into the Daintree Rainforest.

Day 12 - Townsville

Enjoy a city tour of this lesser-known coastal city and discover highlights including the Strand tropical beach and the fascinating Museum of Tropical Queensland. Optional excursions include a helicopter flight over the Great Barrier Reef, a walk through North Queensland Rainforest and a cruise around Cleveland Bay.

Day 13 - Whitsunday Island

Anchor off Whitsunday Island, a paradise of turquoise waters, emerald hills and white sandy beaches sheltered by the Great Barrier Reef. Relax on your beach chair, snorkel amongst the tropical fish and turtles or enjoy complimentary access to a hotel swimmming pool. Alternatively, join a sailing expedition through the Whitsunday archipelago on a catamaran or play a round of golf at Hamilton Island's Championship course.

Day 15 - Brisbane

Located on the Brisbane River, this picturesque city is built on the hills that rise from Moreton Bay. A panoramic tour highlights its main attractions, from the historic Parliament House and beautiful Brisbane City Hall to the renowned botanical gardens. Alternatively, enjoy an off-road drive showcasing Australia's Gold Coast, visit the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary or head to a local farm and distillery in the Tweed Valley.

Day 16 - At sea

Enjoy the ship's facilities on a relaxing day at sea.

Day 17 - Newcastle

Enjoy a scenic coastal drive through Newcastle, past the old hilltop Fort Scratchley, Queens Wharf and the Newcastle and Merewether ocean baths. The spectacular coastline is home to sweeping golden beaches, picturesque parks and amazing vistas. Alternatively, drive around scenic Lake Macquarie or take the excursion that features a trip to sand dunes and a visit to a brewery.

Day 18 - Sydney - UK

Disembark Viking Orion in Sydney and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.

Day 19 - UK

Arrive in the UK.
