The capital and largest city in Greenland, Nuuk has been inhabited by many settlers over the centuries but the present city was only established in 1728. 90% of the population are aboriginal people, so the Greenlandic culture is alive and well and waiting for you to experience it here in the most indigenous city in the world.

Day 7 - Sisimiut

Sisimiut is located just north of the Arctic Circle. The area has been inhabited for around 4,500 years and travelling by dog sled has been the main means of winter transport for centuries. Come ashore to explore the colourful town; visit the small museum, hike in the hills and shop for local handicrafts.

Day 8 - Ilulissat

Over the next few days we attempted to head into the heart of the historic Northwest Passage. A path that has been attempted by many explorers in the past including John Cabot in 1497, the first ever recorded voyage, James Cook in 1776 and the ill-fated Franklin expedition of 1845. The first to conquer the Passage by ship was Norwegian Roald Amundsen on an expedition that lasted from 1903 to 1906. Depending on the ice and weather, you will hopefully be able to visit a number of places such as the Pond Inlet, a traditional Inuit community surrounded by mountains, glaciers, fjords and Dundas Harbour, an abandoned settlement with several archaeological sites. You may also be able to visit the eerie Beechey Island which is known for the ill-fated Franklin expedition of 1845-1846.
