Days 6-10 - Franz Josef Land

Fridtjof Nansen overwintered in Franz Joseph Land in September 1895. The first recorded landing on the archipelago was in 1873, and explorers found wide beaches, steep cliffs and amazing wildlife including arctic foxes, polar bears and walrus. Cape Flora is home to thousands of sea birds including Brünnichs guillemots and black-legged kittiwakes. At Bell Island there are the remains of the oldest building on Franz Josef Land which was left by a British expedition in 1880. You will sail above the 80th parallel and just 600 miles from the Geographical North Pole, with the chance to spot walrus and perhaps polar bears. The exact sequence and choice of landings will be decided by the captain depending on the ice and weather conditions.

Days 11-12 - At sea

Enjoy the ship's facilities on relaxing days sailing the Barents Sea.

Day 13 - Murmansk

In Murmansk there is a huge memorial to Russian soldiers, and a memorial complex including the gold-domed Saviour on the Waters Church which is dedicated to the memory of Murmansk's seamen.

Day 14 - Skarsvag (Norway)

Skarsvag is known as the world's most northerly fishing village. There is an optional excursion to the North Cape at the tip of Northern Europe where there is the chance to see the globe monument and learn more about early expeditions to the North Cape.
