Mythical Iceland Itinerary

Day 1 - Reykjavik (Iceland)

Embark Spitsbergen in Reykjavik.

Day 2 - Stykkisholmur

Enjoy a visit to Stykkisholmur, which has well-preserved houses in the town centre. Explore the several interesting museums or enjoy the view from the church over Breidarfjordur. Exciting optional activities include kayaking, hiking and horse riding. Take a step back in time on the picturesque island of Flatey whilst strolling around the village and along the pretty lanes.

Day 3 - Bjargtangar

Sail around the tip of the Látrabjarg peninsula past the Bjargtangar lighthouse, Europe’s westernmost point.

Day 4 - Isafjordur

Isafjordur is the capital of the Westfjords region of Iceland, and for centuries it was a major centre of commerce and trading. Stroll around this charming town and marvel at the diverse architecture. Discover the country's oldest dwelling and timber houses built by wealthy foreign traders in the 18th century. Choose from optional excursions including horse riding and walking tours.

Day 5 - Hornbjarg Cliff - Reykjafjordur

Hornbjarg Cliff is home to a rich diversity of birds, which you'll be able to see from the deck of the ship. Reykjafjordur can only be reached by boat or on foot and conditions permitting, we will take a closer at this beautiful area.

Day 6 - Hrisey - Akureyri

Enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Hrisey, home to 40 species of birds including the ptarmigan. The lively town of Akureyri is close to many of Iceland’s most renowned beauty spots. Enjoy an optional hike or a trip to the breathtaking Godafoss waterfall.

Day 7 - Grímsey

Grímsey is well known for its proximity to the Arctic Circle, which cuts across the island. There will be the chance to step across that line, from North to South.

Day 8 - Husavik

Explore Husavik, the oldest settlement in Iceland. Perhaps visit The Museum House, the Whale Museum or the famous wooden church of Húsavíkurkirkja. Sail past the Langanes peninsula this evening, known for its rich birdlife.

Day 9 - Bakkagerdi - Seydisfjordur

Borgarfjörður is known as ‘the land of the elves’ and is home to many puffin colonies. Bakkagerdi is the main settlement and offers peace, quiet and impressive views. Perhaps enjoy an optional excursion to the natural forest of Hallormstadur. Later, head to Seydisfjordur, distinguished by its colourful Norwegian-style wooden houses. Explore this unique village, join a hike or take an optional trip out to Skalanes.

Day 10 - Djupivogur

Natural beauty surrounds Djupivogurd. At the Búlandsnes bird sanctuary you can observe most Icelandic birds nesting in their natural habitat and the spectacular Vatnajökull glacier is the largest in Europe. Join the optional excursion to Vatnajökull lagoon, or hike in the beautiful surroundings of the town. Perhaps visit the cultural centre, housed in the oldest house in Djúpivogur, which displays some of the works of sculptor Ríkarður Jónsson and the outdoor sculpture, Eggin í Gleðivík, by the famous Icelandic artist Sigurður Guðmundsson.

Day 11 - Heimaey

The Westman Islands are located off Iceland's south coast. Most of the islands provide a habitat for countless birds, including puffins and kittiwakes, and are a great place for spotting whales. Visit Heimaey with its magnificent cliffs which form natural habitats for many seabirds, including puffins and kittiwakes.
