Journey through the Northwest Passage

Day 1 - Edmonton (Canada)

Begin your adventure with an overnight hotel stay in Edmonton; a lively and colourful city.

Day 2 - Edmonton - Cambridge Bay

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for a flight to Cambridge Bay where you will embark MS Fram.

Day 3-10 - Northwest Passage

Over the next seven days we attempted to head into the heart of the historic Northwest Passage. A path that has been attempted by many explorers in the past including John Cabot in 1497, the first ever recorded voyage, James Cook in 1776 and the ill-fated Franklin expedition of 1845. The first to conquer the Passage by ship was Norwegian Roald Amundsen on an expedition that lasted from 1903 to 1906. Depending on the ice and weather, you will hopefully be able to visit a number of places such as the Pond Inlet, a traditional Inuit community surrounded by mountains, glaciers, fjords and Dundas Harbour, an abandoned settlement with several archaeological sites. You may also be able to visit the eerie Beechey Island which is known for the ill-fated Franklin expedition of 1845-1846.

Day 11 - At Sea

Enjoy the ship's facilities during relaxing days at sea.

Day 12 - Ilulissat (Greenland)

Ilulissat is set in the stunning scenery of the Ilulissat Icefjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the birthplace of icebergs. The town has retained a unique mix of traditional Arctic life, with its multicoloured wooden houses and huskies.

Day 13 - Sisimiut

Sisimiut is located just north of the Arctic Circle. The area has been inhabited for around 4,500 years and travelling by dog sled has been the main means of winter transport for centuries. Come ashore to explore the colourful town; visit the small museum, hike in the hills and shop for local handicrafts.

Day 14 - Nuuk

The capital and largest city in Greenland, Nuuk has been inhabited by many settlers over the centuries but the present city was only established in 1728. 90% of the population are aboriginal people, so the Greenlandic culture is alive and well and waiting for you to experience it here in the most indigenous city in the world.

Day 15 - Kvanefjord

Spend the day exploring the amazing Kvanefjord which is located on the west coast of Greenland and is 48km long.

Day 16 - At Sea

Enjoy the ship's facilities during relaxing days at sea.

Day 17 - Red Bay (Canada)

Red Bay was a centre for Basque whaling operations in the 16th century. The submerged galleons and chalupas used for whale hunting has made Red Bay an impressive underwater archaeological site. In 2013, the Red Bay Basque Whaling Station was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Perhaps stroll along the Tracey Hill Trail for amazing views of Red Bay, visit the interpretation centre to see the collections of whalebones or enjoy a stroll through this former whaling town to learn about its intriguing history.

Day 18 - Corner Brook (Newfoundland)

Corner Brook nestles among the Long Range Mountains on the west coast of Newfoundland where the coastline is filled with magnificent fjords, thick forested areas and jagged headlands. Explore the charming town centre or enjoy its many walking trails among vibrant autumn leaves.

Day 19 - At Sea

Enjoy the ship's facilities during relaxing days at sea.
