Enjoy a guided excursion before embarking expedition ship MS Fram.

Explore beautiful islands, beaches and dramatic fjords, and discover the fascinating history of Svalbard during a two-day exploration of North West Spitsbergen National Park enhanced with exciting Polarcirkel landings. Be on the lookout for polar bears as you spend three days in the magnificent Eastern Svalbard Nature Reserves and South Spitsbergen National Park. Take the opportunity to hike in beautiful Eolsnese, spot walruses on Torellneset and discover cultural heritage from all eras of human exploration on Kapp Lee.

If conditions allow, enjoy an extremely rare landing on Jan Mayen, the remote Arctic island which is one of the most isolated places in the world and houses the northernmost active volcano on earth. In Iceland, admire the gorgeous natural scenery surrounding Djupavik, visit the spectacular waterfall of Dynjandi from Patreksfjördur and witness Stykkishólmur’s incredible landscape of lava and rock formations, glaciers and volcanic activity.

Arctic Islands Exploration Itinerary

Day 1 - Oslo (Norway) - Longyearbyen

Take the opportunity to explore Norway's fascinating capital, Oslo, with its varied architecture and lively bars, before an evening flight to Longyearbyen. Arrive in Longyearbyen and transfer to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 2 - Longyearbyen

Check-out of your hotel and join an excursion showcasing the best of Longyearbyen and the surrounding area before embarking ship. It is a town of contrasts, mixing strong Arctic influences with modern amenities including art galleries, pubs and restaurants.

Day 3-4 - North West Spitsbergen National Park

The North West Corner of Spitsbergen is dotted with beautiful islands, beaches and fjords, not forgetting the majestic shapes which can be found in the drifting ice. Weather permitting, we will land and discover Svalbard's history. You will have the opportunity to see the remains of ancient blubber ovens used to render whale oil.

Day 5-8 - Eastern Svalbard Nature Reserves and South Spitsbergen National Park

Eastern Svalbard is home to the largest population of polar bears in the Svalbard archipelago so you will hopefully get the chance to see one. We'll aim to cruise to Sorgfjorden which borders the North East Spitsbergen Nature Reserve, and weather permitting, you may be able to hike in Eolsneset or embark PolarCirkel boats to explore the Hinlopen Strait area. You may also be able to visit Torellneset, home to walruses, before continuing to Edgeoya where you'll discover Kapp Lee, a fascinating sure for cultural heritage. Cruise south past Hornsund where you may be lucky enough to spot polar bears.

Day 9 - At Sea

Enjoy the ship's facilities on a relaxing day at sea. Perhaps enjoy an educational lecture from the expedition team or learn the basics of photography from the expedition photographer.

Day 10 - Jan Mayen

The Norwegian island of Jan Mayen is one of the most isolated places in the world as it is located at the meeting point of two tectonic plates and is dominated by Beerenberg; the northernmost active volcano on earth. Visits to Jan Mayen are extremely rare but MS Fram and her crew will attempt to make a landing on this fascinating Arctic Island.

Day 11 - At Sea

Enjoy the ship's facilities on a relaxing day at sea. Perhaps relax in the Panorama Lounge with fellow guests..

Day 12 - Djupavik (Iceland)

Djupavik is home to just seven houses, a hotel and the remains of a herring salting factory which was built in 1917 by Elías Stefánsson. Explore the landing site, and the beautiful natural scenery surrounding it.

Day 13 - Patreksfjördur

The charming settlement of Patreksfjördur on the west coast of Iceland offers a range of scenic hiking trails if weather conditions allow. Take the opportunity to visit the spectacular waterfall of Dynjandi or perhaps head to Látrabjarg, a renowned site for bird-watching.

Day 14 - Stykkishólmur

Stykkishólmur's diverse landscape showcases lava and rock formations, glaciers, volcanic activity, and hot and cold springs. Participate in a range of exciting excursions such as kayaking, hiking and horse riding.
