Expedition to Untouched Antarctic Islands National Geographic Special Offer

Land on rarely-visited Peter I Island and approach untouched Charcot Island on this luxury Antarctica expedition cruise on board new icebreaker Le Commandant-Charcot. In partnership with National Geographic Expeditions, this cruise is accompanied by a National Geographic Photographer and an Expert.

After an overnight hotel stay in Santiago, fly to Ushuaia to embark Le Commandant-Charcot and spend two days crossing the legendary Drake Passage. Cross the Antarctic CIrcle, weather permitting, and sail to Detaille Island, home to the remains of a British research station. Cruise through The Gullet, a magical icy passageway to the majestic icebergs of Marguerite Bay and enjoy a Zodiac landing on Pourquoi Pas Island where there may be the chance to observe Adelie penguins.

Approach the untouched island of Charcot then sail to Peter I Island; fewer people have visited this small volcanic island than have set foot on the moon. The island was discovered in 1821 but could only be approached for the first time in 1929, and its summit remains untouched to this day. Complimentary activities include hot air balloon flights, kayaking, snowmobiling, diving, hiking and hovercraft rides.

Expedition to Untouched Antarctic Islands National Geographic Itinerary

Day 1 - Santiago (Chile)

Enjoy an overnight hotel stay in the Chilean capital of Santiago.

Day 2 - Santiago - Ushuaia (Argentina)

Check out of the hotel and transfer to the airport for the flight to Ushuaia, where you will embark ship.

Day 3-4 - Drake Passage

Enjoy the ship's facilities whilst cruising through the legendary Drake Passage.

Day 5 - Detaille Island

Weather permitting, cross the Antarctic Circle - a highlight that is experienced by very few people. Head to Detaille Island where you can see the remains of a British research station dating back to 1956.

Day 6 - The Gullet - Pourquoi Pas Island

Sail through The Gullet, a narrow channel whose immaculate white walls resemble an ice palace. Go ashore on Pourquoi Pas Island for the chance to see Adelie penguins on the rocky shores.

Day 7 - Marguerite Bay

The intense blue waters of Marguerite Bay contrast sharply with the bright white icebergs. The bay is home to a variety of cetaceans, and look out for leopard seals and Adelie penguins.

Day 8-9 - Charcot Island

This mythical island is often shrouded in mist and is covered in ice and sheer cliffs. Very few people have landed on this pristine island whose waters attract many seabirds including petrels, skuas and Antarctic terns.

Day 10-11 - Peter I Island

Sail to legendary Peter I Island whose volcanic landscape is covered in ice and protected by immense ice cliffs, making approach difficult.

Day 12 - At sea

Enjoy the ship's facilities on a relaxing day at sea.

Day 13 - The Gullet

Sail back through the magnificent ice formations of The Gullet.

Day 14-15 - Drake Passage

Look out for marine wildlife whilst crossing back through the Drake Passage, and watch out for elegant albatross and Cape petrels flying above the ship.

Day 16 - Ushuaia - Santiago (Chile)

Disembark ship in Ushuaia and transfer to the airport for the return flight to Santiago.

For navigational reasons the Captain of the ship reserves the right to modify the cruise itinerary.
