Tall Ship Cruises aboard the Caledonia along
the St Lawrence River from Québec, Canada
Explore the historic gateway to the New World on this 7-day sailing voyage along the great St Lawrence River from Québec
Québec held a fascination for the intrepid explorers, sailors and colonists who sought new lives in this beautiful province of Canada. This voyage takes in picturesque islands, pretty villages and some stunning coastline, not least the impressive Saguenay Fjord.

The winding cobbled streets of Québec City, flanked by 17th and 18th century stone houses, graceful parks and squares, provide the perfect starting point to this exciting voyage. The Caledonia then heads north with chances to spot minke and humpback whales as well porpoises, seals and countless sea birds.

Leisurely visits are made to historic Tadoussac, Canada's
first settlement; Île aux Lièvres, a beautiful
nature reserve, known for its seal population and the scenic
city of La Malbaie, with plenty of opportunities to hike,
mountain bike and kayak amongst the most breathtaking and
tranquil scenery along the way.

Other highlights include talks from visiting experts in local history, nature and culture, demonstrations on sailing and navigation skills and the delights of the celebrated local cuisine, whether eating out or freshly prepared onboard.

Embark Québec City. We set sail in the afternoon and head along the St Lawrence River. This great river is home to picturesque islands, abundant wildlife including numerous whales and a wide variety of seabirds. You have a chance to become oriented with the ship and witness a sunset over the scenic coastline as we sail on northwards overnight. (L, D) |

We wake in Tadoussac, the oldest village in Canada, surrounded by a rocky coast and dotted with charming houses. There’s plenty to explore in this beautiful area by hiking or mountain biking and a trip to the sand dunes is a must. Tadoussac itself houses numerous interesting museums - a whale centre, a maritime museum, a salmon fishery and historic Chauvin Trading Post. We stop at the Chappelle de Tadoussac and in the evening enjoy local cuisine and learn about the area from a local historian. (B, L, D) |

We set sail in the stunning Saguenay Fjord – the only one in North America. A naturalist will join us to help interpret the natural wonders along this fascinating stretch of shoreline. Chef prepares a local mixed grill on deck so we don’t miss any wildlife sightings. We anchor for the night at the end of a magnificent valley, L’Anse-Saint-Jean. This natural bay confines the St Jean River and the majestic Saguenay Fjord. There is a chance to explore; take a paddle, bike or hike while enjoying the town’s splendid views. Evening entertainment. At sunrise, we set sail for Île aux Lièvres. Sign up for one of the morning sailing activities ranging from historical lectures, sailing theory or taking the wheel. For the adventurous, climb the rigging, a great spot for viewing porpoises, humpbacks and minke whales that frequent this area. We arrive midday at Île aux Lièvres, one of the estuary’s best-kept secrets. Discover natural lookouts and deserted beaches populated by dozing seals. (B, L, D) |

This morning we enjoy a breakfast sail on course for the city of La Malbaie. A mixture of mountains and forests, La Malbaie boasts breathtaking scenery. Rich in tradition, it lays between the sea and the mountains. It’s a day full of nature and exploration, nearby parks and rivers offer hiking, kayaking, cycling and fishing opportunities. Late afternoon we set sail on a cocktail cruise with wine tasting and traditional folk music as Chef prepares regional delights. (B, L, D) |

We wake to a warm welcome in Grosse Île as a Parks Canada guide joins us to share their knowledge of this island. Centuries of history gives Grosse Île a unique atmosphere, apparent in the monuments to Irish immigrants, burial grounds and the historic buildings. The evening is time for a celebratory Captain’s Dinner with music and entertainment. After dinner we enjoy a night-time cruise. Anchoring in the mouth of the harbour it’s a great backdrop for our last evening, sparkling in the distance are the lights of the city skyline. (B, L, D) |
