Tall Ship Cruises along the east coast of Nova Scotia, Canada aboard Caledonia
Explore the autumn beauty of Nova Scotia on this 7-day Lighthouses and Coastal Colour sailing cruise from Halifax
Nova Scotia is a perfect cruising destination. It's dotted
with mysterious islands, lighthouses and long sandy beaches,
and the unhurried lifestyle in the towns and villages makes
for a relaxing cruise holiday.

Fall celebrations sweep the province in September and October with sweet apple pies and crisp autumn wines amid the buzz and bustle of harvest markets and craft pavilions.

You also visit legendary ports like Lunenburg - a World Heritage
Site, and Liverpool - The Port of the Privateers. Both are
reminiscent of a past when sailing ships called in to port
on a regular basis. This is a leisurely sailing cruise, and
the perfect way to experience the coastal splendour of southern
Nova Scotia.

Halifax, the gateway to Atlantic Canada, is a flourishing
and prominent port situated on the world's second largest
natural harbour. A modern city teeming with culture and heritage,
it makes a great starting or ending point for this sailing
adventure.

Embark in Halifax. Before
departing, a Parks Canada guide will join us to give insight
into the area we are about to discover. We spend the afternoon
sailing past old lighthouses, and colourful headlands.
It's an overnight cruise with a chance to relax, familiarise
yourself with the ship and enjoy the scenic coastline
of Canada's sea coast. |
| Monday |
We arrive at daybreak
at Port Mouton, a beautiful place for anchorage. Opportunities
will exist for optional beachcombing for sand dollars,
sea kayaking past seal colonies and mountain biking. For
the more adventurous, experience one of the most breathtaking
hiking trails in Nova Scotia - the Seaside Adjunct is
a must. In the evening join the lively beach bonfire. |
| Tuesday |
An early morning sail
to historic Liverpool, the former home of North America's
most successful privateers of the 17th and 18th century.
Arriving midday gives ample time to explore this lively
seaport. Join an optional walking tour to discover historic
sites dating back to 1763. Or join the expedition to Kejimkujik
National Park. The lush woodlands and gently rolling landscapes
are home to a variety of wildlife and features an abundance
of lakes and rivers ideal for canoeing. You may choose
to end this eventful day by taking in an evening performance
at the local Astor Theatre. |

Nova Scotia is magnificent in the autumn and the La Have region allows us to take in this natural beauty. Once ashore, stroll Crescent beach, take an optional bike ride, join a zodiac tour or go for a paddle. Bird watchers should keep a look-out for osprey and bald eagles. With an ever-changing backdrop of vibrant fall colours we stay sheltered in a small cove for the evening. The Chef prepares an on-deck grill of local fish, meats and vegetables all seasoned with true maritime flair. |
| Thursday |
The ship will make way
early in the day for the UNESCO World Heritage Site of
Lunenburg. Arriving at Lunenburg in the early afternoon
to what was once the focal point for the Grand Banks fishery.
A trip to Nova Scotia is not complete without a visit
to this modest town. You will find a beautiful art gallery
in the same building as a blacksmith, still practicing
skills of the past. Other options include a visit to the
Fisheries Museum, a trip on a Lobster Fishing boat or
a Horse and Buggy ride. The ship is in port for the evening
and we celebrate with the Captain's Dinner, an evening
full of entertainment. |
| Friday |
Sailing out of Lunenburg
in the morning, we enjoy the brightly painted houses along
the shoreline. Mahone Bay boasts a long history of shipbuilding
and sailing vessels. This Nova Scotian town is a treasury
of history, culture and 19th century architecture. The
charming main street hosts art galleries, speciality shops
and living museums - all within an easy stroll. This stop
also provides an unforgettable backdrop for kayaking.
Late afternoon we continue our scenic sail, passing one
of Canada's most photogenic locations. The famous lighthouse
in Peggy's Cove is the crowning feature of this beautiful
Atlantic coast. We enjoy the toe-tapping sounds of the
fiddle as our cruising day comes to an end. We anchor
in the Northwest Arm, a charming inlet to spend our last
night. |
