Explore the tropical forests, beaches and coral reefs of the Costa Rica Pacific coast on this 7-night cruise on board the exclusive 148-guest sailing ship Wind Star

This six star cruise visits locations off the beaten track where the Costa Rica rainforest extends from the mountains down to the sea. It includes a call at San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua from where there are excursions to the active Masaya Volcano or the historic colonial city of Granada.

Experience the dense tropical flora and the hundreds of bird species and animals in the Costa Rica rainforest, National Parks, and nature reserves. There are opportunities to see capuchin, spider and white-faced monkeys, perhaps sloths and anteaters.

The itinerary includes landings by zodiac boats on tropical islands with white sand beaches and tiny coves. Swim or snorkel in the waters of the coral reef, and those with experience can scuba dive to get up close to the teeming fish life.

Natural Wonders of Costa Rica Cruise Itinerary
Day 1
Depart from UK

Fly from the UK to Costa Rica, and stay overnight in a hotel (room only)

Day 2
Puerto Caldera, Costa Rica

Embark on Wind Star and depart early evening.

Day 3
Cruising at sea

Enjoy a day at sea taking in the sights and all the ship has to offer - the restaurants, gym, spa, shops, casino, or library. Maybe tour the ship's Bridge. Marvel at the tropical forests that come right to the coastline and up to the distant mountains.

Day 4
San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua

Arrive early morning then explore this traditional fishing village nestled around a crescent shaped beach. Optional tour to the colonial city of Grenada or the active Masaya Volcano.

Day 5
Playas del Coco, Costa Rica

Anchor in the bay for a beach landing from a zodiac. You can explore the dry tropical forest, perhaps taking a zip-line canopy trail or raft through rice and sugar plantations. Keep a look out for capuchin and howler monkeys, motmots, parrots, wood storks and spoonbills amongst the tropical vegetation.

Day 6
Quepos, Costa Rica

Take in Quepos' shops and restaurants or explore the Manuel Antonio National Park rainforest, the best in Costa Rica. Follow the trails through its 1867 acres full of wildlife and tropical birds. Alternatively take a boat ride through the mangroves spotting wildfowl, crabs and crocodiles.

Day 7
Bahia Drake, Costa Rica

Drake Bay boasts pristine beaches, lush forests and untouched wilderness as well as coral reefs that you can explore. Take an optional tour by boat to the rich rain forests of Corcovado National Park with its abundant flora and fauna, with a chance to spot dolphins and other marine creatures.

Day 8 am
Curu Wildlife Reserve, Costa Rica

Beach landing by zodiac on this beautiful coastline to explore the tiny coves and beaches. Spend a morning exploring the Curu National Wildlife Refuge. Be on the look out for monkeys, iguanas, sloths and ant-eaters and hundreds of bird species.

Day 8 pm
Tortuga Island, Costa Rica

Visit Tortuga (Turtle) Island, an uninhabited island with perfect palm-fringed beaches and lush tropical flora. Tortuga offers terrific sheltered swimming and snorkelling.

Day 9 and 10
Puerto Caldera, Costa Rica

Arrive this morning and disembark for your return overnight flight to the UK

Scuba Diving instruction is available onboard, and at suitable locations diving trips are offered. The huge variety of fish makes for exciting diving.
